Thursday - Monday for me, hope hope it turns up on Thursday.

Can someone please riddle me this.

Why buy the cellular version if you have an iPhone? Isn't it cheaper to just pay for one data plan and share your phone as a hotspot? Maybe I'm missing something.

Couple reasons. First off, if you have a mobile share plan, adding the iPad is another $10 and uses the same pool of data. Second, convenience. I had a wifi only iPad 3 and it did not stay connected to the iPhone after a bit. I would have to open the hotspot settings page on the iPhone in order for the iPad to connect. Which meant I also needed to go to the wifi menu on the iPad to connect. I know iOS 8.1 is supposed to streamline this but I'm not convinced that I can get the same experience of unlocking my iPad and just being online. Third, the new iPads work with multiple carriers, so for someone who travels internationally often, being able to connect to different networks without switching the sim out is a great feature. Those are my three cents.

Guess ordering from AT&T was a bad idea. Lame.

Estimate of 11/3 to 11/7 for 64GB Air 2 in Space Grey with AT&T LTE.

I was thinking about this too in terms of convenience but I don't travel often enough for it to be worth it so got the regular Air 2 as a WiFi Model.

iPad Air 2 ordered around 11:30 EST, best delivery still says (10/29-10/31) but switched over from processing to preparing for shipment (so engraving must be done?).

Midnight Blue leather case shipped yesterday with a delivery date of this Tuesday, Oct 21. Originally it was 10/23. So I hope that iPad will arrive sooner than 10/29. Like Friday Oct 24th I'm hoping?

Yeah they are really behind on phones too

I would just cancel and reorder from Apple.

That is your best option.

I think the GPS is worth it. But that's me.

Because the iPad Cellular has GPS. The iPad WiFi doesn't.

I also prefer to save my phone battery for... talking. I don't want to use the battery on the phone running a hotspot.

And if I turn the hotspot on and off, I dont want that hassle.

The cellular iPad connection is always on, and it is more convenient.

So you pay extra for convenience. The new AT&T plans let you add an iPad to share your data for $10/month. That may not be worth it to some, but to others it is.

Preparing for Shipment already??!! What model?

Hi,

I ordered an iPad Air 2 with AppleCare+ and a Smart Case. Is it normal that all three items will be shipped differently? And why will AppleCare+ be shipped? Won't it be activated automatically on my iPad? I never bought an iPad online and when I bought it at the local Apple Store, AppleCare+ was immediately activated and I just received a booklet but no box.

I have an unlimited ATT data plan for the iPad. Plus, ATT has coverage in some places that my TMO phone doesn't.

Some valid points, but if you're logged into the same iCloud account on your IDevices, you don't even need to toggle hotspot on or off. They'll be able to connect without any intervention. Works really well.

I've got an iPhone 6 for GPS so I'm good ;)

Huh? I want to access the Internet with Chrome. What has that got to do with my iCloud account?

You said you don't want the hassle of turning personal hotspot on or off. I was simply saying there is no hassle. For example, my iPhone 6 Plus has its hotspot off right now, but my iMac can still take advantage of the 6 Plus hotspot-ability, since it's connected to the same Apple ID/iCloud account.

So if I order a cellular one off of Apple.com, will it prompt me to choose a carrier or just ship me a cellular one side they work on all three carriers the same?

I want to order one for AT&T, but I am currently not an AT&T customer. So would I have to take it in to AT&T after I receive it?

I received an email that said my smart case would arrive Oct 24th-28th but now the UPS tracking says it will be delivered on the 22nd. Maybe the iPads will arrive sooner than their estimates.

Talked to Apple yesterday. Due to some glitch in payment. I asked if this would delay my order and he said no. The delivery dates given already take glitches like this into consideration.

So in short, he told me people will most likely receive before the quoted dates.

My order still says processing but there is nothing charged or held at bank, same for anyone else?

My order still says processing as well, ordered at 11:12 AM on Friday. I got two separate "Card Not Present" alert emails (one for the iPad and one for AppleCare) from my CC company, but the charges haven't been finalized. Apple just authorized, and they're sitting in my list of pending charges.

Still:

Processing Items Available to ship: 2-4 business days
Delivers: Oct 23 - Oct 27 by Standard Shipping

No, it will work for all carriers except Verizon. If you have Verizon, like I do, you need to get a SIM from them.

I'm sorry, but I'm confused. Excuse my denseness on this one.

The question is why get a cellular iPad if you can just turn hotspot on your phone and connect to the Internet that way.

I don't want to turn on the hotspot on my phone so my iPad can connect for the reasons I stated.

Not sure how an iMac or an iCloud account figure into this. I'm assuming an iMac is hard wired to the Internet, and I'm nowhere near it if I'm out and about with my iPad and iPhone.

What did I miss here?
