i just purchased a new mac pro yesterday...

is there for sure a new one coming next month?

should i return this one today? i havent even plugged it in yet, but i have taken it out of the box.

i should have come here before going to get it... damn...

any advice?

i just wanted to add that im not too concerned with having the "latest" mac pro... but ive saved my money long enough and if there is a new one coming soon then i might as well wait just a little longer.

i can continue to use my G4 if need be

What model / speed , etc on your current MacPro ? The Mac Pro line is long overdue for an upgrade but nobody knows when they will be out. Based on recent trends though, the upgrade will be faster but also will be more expensive. If you are happy with the MacPro you just bought, keep it.

even if you were totally satisfied with the one you bought, its common sense to return it. why? because wwdc is like a week away, there is probably going to be a new mac pro coming and it will be better value if not adding new features.

i get that people always do the waiting game, and it is best to just get one when you need it, but we are so close to wwdc, your not losing any money when returning it, so its just common sense to see what is announced.

im doing the same ;)

I doubt you will see any Mac announcements at WWDC. Based on it's description, it will be 100% iPhone related :).

You've obviously won some friends at the store, however, I have to agree with the majority of the forum members: you should consider protecting your interests more than trusting that other people will put your interests above their own. This is unfortunately the dark side of capitalism.

After all, Micro Center didn't go out of their way to tell you that an update was expected, did they? Of course their manager wants you to get used to the thing you've already bought: he knows he has a stack of them to get rid of before the update is announced. This is biz 101.

You've already gotten in trouble by not doing your homework before purchasing. I think you're getting excellent advise to be cautious about accepting a manager's word over a store policy. What if the manager gets fired before he can help you?

I would reconsider your strategy.

Anyone have popcorn?

maybe i am trusting this store manager too much in this situation. i just know that if it were myself or any of my co workers who made a promise like this that it would be kept no questions. i got the same vibe from this guy at micro center, but of course he could change his tune when it actually comes time to follow through.

im thinking that if the announcement doesn't come within the 30 days of my purchase that im just going to return it and wait. ive at least got that to fall back on.

cmon apple!

keeping it and just upgrading it is also an option im considering... that is if the new stuff isnt coming soon.

You could always be cheeky and try get a contractual agreement from the guys at the store :p Just a couple lines explaining the deal and signatures.

Verbal agreements are always so fragile.

yeah i know i could

i did however email his GM with the whole deal laid out in text. i copied the store manager as well. basically praising the store for the level of service they seem to offer. that way i can bring that in if they forget about it, but im thinking im just going to use the 30 days... if nothing happens then its going back and im waiting it out with everybody else.

thanks everybody! this place has been very helpful

...did either the GM or the store manager reply back to you in any way yet?

If not, the store manager probably got an arse chewing about making a promise he couldn't keep... good luck with it either way.

i believe i have made a decision

i think ill be returning the MacPro and getting a 15" MBP i7 (i was planning on getting an MBP later this year anyway). so this way i can use the MBP to tide me over until there is an update... if ever...

Sounds wise to me, especially if you need / planned to buy both a laptop and desktop anyway. You've surfed the new product shorebreak well, dude! Cowabunga!

yeah... i should have done my research before any purchase, but ive been pretty preoccupied lately. normally im on top of such business.

im sure the MBP will serve me very well while waiting.

*FINAL CONCLUSION*

so i decided to go with the MBP and wait it out for the MP update.

and i gotta say the Micro Center team took care of me indeed. they allowed me to return the MP and waived the "open box" fee. then they sold me the i7MBP for $1999.00 due to an educational discount. so basically they held true to their word and did exactly as they said they would. amazing customer service. and because of that i will be returning to Micro Center when the new MPs are released.

case closed!

Well, I was going to IKEA in Cincinnati, Ohio and there is a Micro Center nearby so I called and they do NOT do an educational discount at the store.
Which store did you use?
I am trying to decide between the 13 or 15 MBP!

basically Micro Center will "price match". so all I did was go to the apple educational store. after finding my wifes school (teacher) on the site, it then updates the prices. from there you just do a screen print of whichever mac your looking at and bring it to Micro Center. they SHOULD price match it... well at least they did here.

tell them you want them to price match the apple educational store. price matching is one of their selling points. they will do it.

good luck
