My guess is that it's just a glitch

Apple told me they were removed because they didn't have permission to sell them anymore. Whether that is the truth or just what they tossed at me....

Also note that both movies are distributed by Lionsgate ...

Yes, specifically Summit Entertainment. I shot them an email to see why they were taken down and so far no response..

They probably just gave you a boilerplate answer. The movies are still for sale in other digital stores (e.g. Vudu and Amazon), and it seems highly unlikely that the distributor would single out iTunes for two specific movies.

Both for sale on the UK iTunes Store. One at £3.99 and the other with 4K Dolby Vision & Atmos!

We have films in the UK Mr Rigby that taken off iTunes but remain on Amazon & Google. Cruel Intentions and The Rebound being examples.

I'm under the impression that nobody at iTunes knows the heck is going on. It seems to be very badly run with zero communication to staff along with customers.
Do you get the impression that Apple is not interested in its iTunes Store service? That's the impression I get whenever i've been unfortunate enough to have to deal with them.

I haven't had to deal with them very often, but the support persons seem to be mostly clueless and try to get rid of you by offering free rentals or refunds (whether you want it or not). But no, I don't think Apple is uninterested in the store in general, given all the improvement efforts such as 4K upgrades, Dolby Atmos support, continuous upgrades of the streaming quality etc.

I don't have Source Code, but my Red is gone from my library too (first time this ever happened to me as far as I'm aware). However, I have a download on my server (a VM with iTunes), and when I start it I still have access to the extras, which are streamed from the cloud. So I think the movie is actually still there. My guess is that it's just a glitch. Also note that both movies are distributed by Lionsgate ...

In the UK iTunes Store Red is distributed by Entertainment One. It's listed as 4K Dolby Vision with Dolby Atmos.
Maybe you'll get this updated version?
Priced at £5.99

...I lost purchased movies due to the content provider pulling them from the store. Really stinks. Even the apple rep I talked to over chat all but admitted it was BS....

I was denied a refund; even though they are still listed in my purchase history. I was given a free movie rental though...

Anyone else lose any movies lately?

Did you also lose the movie on other linked sites? Assuming you have iTunes linked to Movies Anywhere, Amazon, Google Play Store... etc.

iTunes is the only store I use. I couldn’t check.

That’s what I tried to tell them but that didn’t go far. I got a free rental though. I have a nice collection of free rentals built up over the years.... haha

Eddy Cue operation. I'm not surprised. Apart from negotiation I don't think he's competent or has (long) passion for anything else. Anything under him stagnant after a while:, iTunes, iTunes U in particular, iWorks, Siri etc. A mistake on Cook part to let him oversee too many things.

Looks like the iTunes Store name is going. I've just been on the Paramount site and under the buy film, there's Amazon for BluRay and for streaming & download it says 'Get it on Apple TV'

No. Movies Anywhere is the bridge between the various digital stores. If a studio doesn't participate in MA, its movies do not transfer. Lionsgate and Paramount are the remaining majors that don't participate.

Why is that MA is only available in the USA? Is that the largest audience of home entertainment in the world?
Again, no VUDU outside of the USA and very interestingly, in the UK 4K UHD BluRay does not come with the download/stream option - just the UHD disc and BluRay disc - although 4K BluRay is very very very limited in its titles in the UK.

No strictly true as there’s still some recent titles that come with a digital code, all recent digital copies redeem via Google Play.

You're not missing anything. Vudu was the best Ultraviolet provider, but since the demise of UV it's just another digital store. IMO you're better off with one of the big three (iTunes, Amazon, Google Play).

Thank you Rigby :) Just iTunes that's the big one in the UK - Amazon doesn't allow HD download etc so no contender and Google Play is very small. For sports I use Vimeo as they are DRM are, their app for Apple TV has always been beautiful and they are absolutely outstanding to deal with for customer service. It's always a pleasure to deal with Vimeo - they seem passionate about what they do! :)

I'm unlucky. The ones that I find interest in all lack that! Thanks Gonzo :)

By the looks of things those with digital copies seem to be from Lionsgate.

Because MA only has rights to do that in the USA from the content owners. Those owners already have deals in place with distributors. Deals that have restrictions on competing services.

I own several movies, and several cuts of movies, as well as TV episodes/seasons that are no longer available for purchase on iTunes, but they are still there. My cousin has a whole bunch of movies and shows like that.

Over the years, the only thing to have disappeared from my account are a few songs (which I had backed up) and a couple of apps, as well as some movies that temporarily disappeared, but later returned. That's not to say that movies and shows can't be yanked... they absolutely can, BUT I think in this particular case, both movies will probably return before too long.

I have over a thousand movies and TV shows, all ripped from their discs, with all of the extras, and no further compression. Basically full discs, minus the ads. They’re all on hard drives.

You could do it if you wanted to :p

Seriously though, your current issue is the reason why I don’t buy anything but disc-based media. (and the better quality)
Would you tell me which software you use for this? The only experience I have trying to rip purchased DVD's is from the mid 2000's, and let me tell you that software was horrrrrrible.

Apple's decision to restrict 4K playback to current model Macs is just another reason physical media is still the way to go. I've been meaning to get a 4K-compatible Blu-ray drive so I can finally watch a movie in 4K on my 5K iMac (Late 2015).

Buying movies through iTunes is becoming less and less worthwhile. They're often priced comparably to or higher than purchasing a Blu-ray copy through a site like eBay. So you end up paying more for DRM and inferior quality. It's a lose-lose situation.

(You weren't replying to me in the first part of your post but it's still a great talking point) -- Apple restricted 4k playback to which year model forward? Surely you're kidding? Unless the hardware is flat-out incapable of decoding 4K for playback, that is absolutely asinine.

Also, I never considered eBay for BluRay copies. That's brilliant.

Thanks so much for the software link. I've been considering getting back into physical media. It's becoming more and more clear to me that all-digital libraries are a liability (as the OP has proven). I just hope they keep making BluRays for a long time to come. And when is NBC going to release a BluRay collection of The Office?! :p

2018/2019 models only. Apparently the restriction has something to do with the DRM Apple is using, not the hardware being incapable of playing the content itself. All Skylake and Kaby Lake Mac models should be capable of basic playback.

I used to have Silver Linings Playbook within iTunes [removed VUDU & MA as it was stated it was NOT a MA movie].

I redeemed the digital copy into iTunes.
BUT now I don't. I don't see it in my library either on a Mac. not on my iPhone Library either. not sure about Apple TV Library but would think they'd be the same.

Bummer.
