That might be why Apple made it that way. No way in heck would I be able to handle the Max. It’s too big for me to use. I like the screen size but my hands are too small.

I have teeny tiny little hands, and I have no issues handling or using my Max, nor did I have issues with my previous 6s Plus and 7 Plus. You just adapt and get used to it...when I first switched from a 6 to a 6s Plus, there was a day or two of adjustment, but after that, the phone felt perfect for me. Going from the X to the XS Max has been the same - a day or two and it felt completely natural.

The battery on the XS Max is 19% bigger which is not much difference. In the past, the plus model phones had a 40%+ larger battery than the smaller devices.

Thats True, but respectively, the current processors are so much more efficient, its not as taxing on the battery battery where it needs to have the biggest battery possible, because there is significant less power draw. But in the same respect, it really depends on one’s settings as well, which has a major impact on battery life, including usage.

I owned the XS for 3 days before returning it for the XS Max. Coming from a 7+, I was just making way too many typos on the XS's small screen. Also I could not get the font to a comfortable level for me on the XS. If you are used to a Plus phone, you may not like the keyboard on the X / XS phone.

so I will try the XS as the screen size is the same size as the iPhone 8+.

The screen size despite Apple's claims (5.5" vs 5.8") is NOT the same as the Plus on the Xs.
This is a myth. It's proven to be smaller. Note the width of the Plus, the X/Xs phones are narrower.

They have it listed as bigger, but it's actually proven to be smaller. The only phone bigger
than a Plus phone out now is the Max (more screen but the physical size of the phone is very similar). The Xr will have more screen real estate too (but less resolution than the XS/Max and Plus phones).

This, other than the fact that I got an out-of-box damaged XS, is why I returned as well. It just felt too small even though I thought I wanted the smaller form factor.

Well I will use the phone to see if I like the smaller screen if not I send the XS back and get the XS Max as I like to have the bigger screen I just thought coming from the 8+ that the screen size would be bigger as it's 5.8.

Completely agreed. I'm actually surprised that I want a smaller device when I always wanted larger ones before.

Same here. I skipped the X, hoping for a larger screen. Got the larger screen, only to find that 5.8" is the sweet spot. For the first time in a long time, I bought the smaller phone.

The only issue I have with the XS is the damn keyboard! I’ve never had so many typos before.. Plus, the ongoing connectivity issue on my device may force a switch to the 8+ ..

I would absolutely hate it if Apple made the iPhone Max models superior than the standard size by adding better features.

They should only differ by screen size and I can tolerate battery life. The bigger phones should show more content, and make graphics more pleasant to look at. People who buy big phones just want a better experience with a bigger display.

No one needs to get the Max, the 5.8” is the best size in general.
Sorry but the 5.8 Inch X/XS is too small, and the notch being there is a problem with me, which is why I didn't upgrade last yr, but when they announced the 6.5 Inch Max, I was sold, got it in hands, love the Max, beautiful phone, pricey yes, but worth it IMO, I don't have big hands, but have no issue either using one hand, or using two hands, which i prefer, I'd rather have a grip on my phone, so 2 hands make sense for me.

The XS is taller in height but slightly narrower in width. XS is like 1% smaller if you take aspect ratio into question. Obviously the wider width of the 8+ will fit a few more characters on a single row but the taller height of the XS will mean more visible content as top and bottom UI is pushed up and down.

Coming from a 5.5" 16:9 phone I don't feel the XS is all that different in terms of what is on screen thanks to the tall display. The form factor is much more manageable to me.

The difference Id imagine is quite more in landscape than 1% with the Plus, cause of the letter box and especially non optimization in many instances (even on the sides, as shown in the pic I posted below). The Plus has had a lot more time to mature. In portrait, yes, you would see more.

I think quite a few people have found they prefer the Xs over the Max as well for the easier form too, it really comes down to personal preference. I'm torn, cause I love the display size of the Max but the Xs does seem to be much more manageable.
