My question is..

When I use cmd-opt-ctl-8 it switches to negative image (with color) for about a second then goes to negative greyscale. If I change it manually in SysPrefs, it will stay in negative color. Is this normal? Seems like a bug to me. BTW, I'm on 10.3.9.

Could be.... I'm using 10.3.9 and it does the same thing you describe. I also just realised that my volume is up really loud and if I accidently linger over something in that particular sysPref screen the scary lady yells at me :(

In operating systems below 10.4, the cmd-opt-ctrl-8 trick goes to an inverted black and white. That is just how it was made, they switched to the negative look with Tiger. So that would be why some get black and white and others color.

Yes, that's what my iBook did under Panther (10.3.x), too. But after I upgraded to Tiger (10.4.x) it actually stays in color on the inverse. Very Cool™!

I actually made a post about the cool change from 10.3.9 to 10.4 right after upgrading to Tiger, and another one when I (inadvertently) had managed to turn it off :)o), a while later, and briefly wondered it 10.4.1 or 10.4.2 had broken it, but I'm too lazy to search for those posts right now...

Hold down COMMAND and + to zoom in, COMMAND and - to zoom out. :)
There's actually two different kinds of zoom. One for just the active window, and one for the whole desktop screen. At least on my macs (10.4.2) Command and + zooms just the active window, whereas Command and option and + zooms the whole desktop (which I find myself using more and more).

Do what was said in the beginning of this post,

Enjoy!

i have setup ( a while back knowing about this trick) an album in all negatives to enjoy, and share with friends.. Everyone I show thinks it is crazy!

I hate when that happens. I have my irc client speak text from certain people. There have been a few times after a band rehearsal that i have gotten pm's sent throught the PA at scary loud levels. That and that damn 'quack' when you hit a key with a dialog box open. Whoops.

I don't see anything in inverse. Only when I highlight it.

The text is just barely stands out on my iBook, and not at all on my LCD hooked to G5. Probably depends on calibration/color sync.

Oh my goodness, that wasn't cool at all. That was frightening. Why on earth would anyone want their screen to look like that? It was like looking at old color film negatives,

Actually I think after staring at the screen for awhile this alleaviated some pressure off my eyes. I think it would actually be good to switch off and on between this mode in the day. Plus, everything that was blue which was everything is now orange, my favorite color.

ZOOM FEATURE +++++ is amazing. It helps alot ofr taking screen shots of certain area. Because I find the cursor to pick the area isn't exact enough, but with a bit off zoom around the wanted area. Bam!! Its like having photoshop opened the whole time. :D <---- Ok black teeth, NO.

I was wondering what the hell you were talking about. It looked like a regualr Subaru, then I realised I was still in inverted mode, so it looked normal.

And if you need to turn it on it's in System Preferences->Universal Access->Zoom. (I believe it's turned off by default).

Hotkey to enable/disable zoom is option-command-8. Then option-command-+ and option-command-- increases and decreases zoom level. I work with zoom enabled all the time and have not found it to affect system performance.

command-+ and command-- increase and decrease the font size in Safari. This is not a zoom operation since the graphics and window borders do not change size.

Why is it that I can only zoom in all the way or not at all? When I hit OPT-CMD-+ it automatically zooms all the way in, and I can't stop it part-way in.

Perhaps your minimum or maximum zoom settings are set this way. Check in the Universal Access Preference Pane under the Zoom options.
