Firstly, sorry for another notch thread.

However, almost everything that has been said about the damn notch has been negative... but I love it.

I love the way that things conform to the shape of the screen, from the rounded corners to the notch up top. Obviously, there’s a LOT of apps and content that haven’t been updated yet, but the things that have been updated look great. I just watched some videos and the notch did not bother me in the slightest -like I said above, I actually just like how I can fill the entire screen with content right out to the very edges of the phone.

Am I the only nut job out there?

Regardless, I hope those that picked up the X are having a blast, and if you are still waiting on yours to arrive then hang in there, it’s worth the wait.

I just watched a YouTube video of the new World of Warcraft cinematic. It was so amazing to watch.

But the notch totally spoiled the experience because of that blacked out part on the side.

There is no excuse for it. It sucks!!!!

Stop making pathetic reasons for liking it.

The whole point of watching a video full screen is so that the video fills the entire screen!!

And with the IPhone X now OLED and bezel free, it was suppose to be an awesome experience.

But the notch has spoiled it all.

The X screen is larger than the Plus’s screen. It IS meant for watching videos but that experience has now been spoiled by the notch.

I feel like this thread is the reason people dislike Apple users...in no way is the notch ideal (from a design Perspective or user perspective); you liking it is like saying “I love using dongles! Makes my Mac have character”

The way I look at it is the screen either side of the notch are bonus bits of screen for the clock, battery etc.

Everything else just straight across below the notch is your normal viewing area.

The notch is a pain if you sit there and stare at it. When actually using the phone, you don’t even notice the notch because your eyes are focused in elsewhere on the screen.

After 5 minutes with the thing, I stopped noticing it, and I actually see it as slightly helpful for having a visual cue for some of the gestures like swiping right for control center etc.... It is really not a big deal at all.

Hoping to pick mine up today in sunny Portugal but as far as the notch goes, and I've watched plenty of online videos over the last 24hrs, a phone is not exactly the ideal or best place to watch a video/film. Yes, its handy and fun if that floats your boat but I've xx quids worth of tv which is made for watching videos and films but is pants for stuff I do on my phone. Horses for courses and all that....

I think the notch helps with the orientation since now there is no home button to indicate the lower end. Thanks to the notch you will never try to phone someone using it upside down.

I don’t mind during normal usage but when watching videos it really sucks

The Notch never bothered me before I even knew I was going to purchase the iPhone X. But I do agree that watching videos It can be a little obtrusive, but it just takes Time to get used to or you don't like it at all.

The notch gives it character and an "identity". Not a problem for me.

I agree. The reality is (and strictly speaking from the front view only) if all phones have no bezels how will you identify one phone from another from different manufactures. It needs to have some character and the notch gives it that. That notch will appear across all their devices and from a distance you will know that's an Apple product. People saying the notch spoils their movie experience is a load of rubbish. Most of the action happens in the middle of the phone not the edges. I have zero issues with it and that is not because I love Apple, it just doesn't matter. Now maybe one day tech will advance where all the sensors sit under the display. When that happens great but until then embrace the notch I say.

This is actually quite annoying. It is what it is.

I keep grabbing my phone and it’s hard to tell what side is up. I’m putting a screen protector on my phone today. I’ll be able to feel for the notch cut out, so it won’t be as much of an issue anymore.

As for the notch. I actually like it in portrait, and I was a huge notch hater. It gives the phone character without messing with my content. I do “notice” it, but I like the way it looks...call me crazy. I’m just sad I don’t have a battery percentage.

Landscape mode, however, it’s a nightmare. Apple should put a software bezel when in landscape. It’s hideous.

I'm not a fan of it, I do think its a poor design accommodation that feels very un-apple like, but with that said, like it or hate it. The notch is here to stay

Stop making pathetic reasons for liking it.

You could probably choose your words better... my reason for liking it is just as valid as your reason for disliking it. I’ve had every iPhone generation since the original, so I didn’t just pull my opinion out of my ass after 1/2 day of use.

I’m also not an Apple apologist, when they do something wrong I will call it too. Like their preorder fulfillment and launch day stock for Canada, which was insultingly bad compared to south of the border.

In my opinion, the notch “issue” was blown out of proportion. I would’ve preferred to have a thin bar toward the top, but this is fine to me.

I feel the same way about the notch as I do the red crown on the Apple watch. Much ado about nothing and I don't even notice when using.

I don't think it's ideal, but I do prefer the clock, signal etc being moved upwards from what would be another part of the screen taken by a status bar. Would never wish for it, but it's just not that big of a deal. 10mins with it, don't even really notice it.

I wouldn’t go as far as saying I love it.... but I find myself not minding it and kind of forgetting it’s there a little bit. Still a horrible design choice imo

It was from the start a complete non issue for me. However it also did not take me too long to appreciate that the design keeps the clock, battery icons “out of the way” and serves to separate functions (ie swipe to right or left or below the notch)

I actually prefer it to having a bezel across top that would “hide” the notch.

If I had spent the money on the X I'd be rationalising my love for the notch too ;)

I'll probably be doing exactly that this time next year when it's still sat at the top of the screen and I make the jump to the second gen X. Here's the thing, and it works both ways, 'we' get excited about our new purchase because it's shiny and new (esp with such a huge form factor change with the X). Then a week later it's just a phone and it's all normal. It works both ways because even if you don't like the notch, you're more than likely going to accept it.

I guarantee you, this will happen to me. Tbh, the width of the X bothers me more than the notch now. I'll continue to watch from afar with my 8+.

Have fun, keep the feedback coming. I'm relying on the community to share UX.
