If I had spent the money on the X I'd be rationalising my love for the notch too ;)

Not sure if you were referring to me specifically, but I don’t need to rationalize spending my money how I choose to anyone ;)

Even if I was trying to hide some feeling of buyer’s remorse through a display of false love, there’s a very generous return policy at Apple. I know that I won’t be needing it! The only reason I’d return this phone is in order to get a silver model, which I originally wanted instead of Space Grey.

I'm not sure which of the iPhone X design "features" annoys me the most: It may be the notch, it may be the persistent bar across the bottom or it may be the ridiculously huge and badly positioned camera hump

Whatever it is, all I do know is the iPhone X is the first iPhone I have absolutely no interest in purchasing

I actually like it too. For some reason it makes the full screen effect look jaw dropping. Plus it’s a perfect place to touch to go to the top of web pages.

My point was, very few are likely to say they don't love it and we all love getting new things. I'm not saying initial impressions are false but there is definitely consumer adrenaline pumping away. Man, I'm excited for everyone getting the X. Nothing like an upgrade, from ordering to delivery to unboxing and those opening few days/weeks are mint. I think we buy into it before we even hold the product in our hands so there's nothing surprising about being impressed. We are addicted to the entire journey. Sure, one or two might feel underwhelmed and return it.

I'm not trying to hate on you or anyone else. I just think the psychology behind it all is fascinating. I was adamant a few years ago that I would never own a +. I thought it looked ridiculous. My hypocrisy (or perhaps realisation) was when I took the gamble and ordered a 6s+ (completely against my judgement), within seconds...SECONDS...of holding it I was like 'wtf, how have I ever lived without this?' I feel the notch is another one of these things that is exaggerated both ways and if there was a workable alternative that Apple had introduced instead (and there was no notch) the same people saying its great would laugh at the suggestion of it.

I'm getting too deep and I probably need to be stood in a kitchen high to continue this discussion.

tl;dr - I'm probably just jealous you lot have new tech to play with x

I don’t think about it at all and yes I think it gives the phone character and I like how apps and videos look all the way to the corners. Great so far.

For me it’s not a big deal, I think the media especially YouTube commentators made it seem like it would be so bad which was a good thing because now I’m like mehhhh. For people saying the notch takes away from the screen just remember if there was no notch it would have a full top bezel, technology has not advance that much to where its possible otherwise.

I think it would have been cool to give the notch some touch sensitive features. Maybe the ability to scroll pages up and down by swiping would make people hate it less. For me it’s not a big issue because when I watch movies on the phone I tend to hold it in my left hand and my thumb kind of covers the not anyway.

And yes it does help with phone orientation. I previously hade the Note 8 and a couple times I would have problems with the phones orientation and viewing apps correctly but then would realize the phone was upside down.

This thread is hilarious. Feels more like a collection of poeple saying how they like something because they paid $1000 for it. Not even noticing it after an hour of using it doesnt make it great again.

You would like anything Apple throws at you. The notch is an ugly aberration.

It's like Stockholm syndrome.

Hopefully apple puts the notch on all of their phones, then everybody will eventually like it! Hell, put it on the iMacs and ipads! Fanboys would eventually "like it"!

Well, I do not own or plan to buy the X, but I mentionned a valid functional benefit for the notch. Care to discuss it?

I can imagine some will like El Notch, Girls will no doubt use the expression "it's cute" a bit like the bad guy with the scar above his eyebrow.

Nevertheless the reason I'm giving X a wide berth:

• Price, smartphones should be like TVs and coming Down in price not Up
• Lack of 24 month Warranty
• iOS deliberate slow downs that force upgrades, did I mention forced iOS updates as well, talk about being 'lead down the garden path'
• El Notch, it's hideous, would I take a bite out of a framed pictures on my wall, No

iPhone user since 2007.

I don't mind the camera hump, I actually think it looks better then the iPhone 8 plus' hump and I'm the type of person to put a case on the phone, so the hump issue, is basically moot.

The bar on the bottom is a necessity, given the lack of a button and I've mostly gotten used to it, though I do wonder if there could be a better solution.

The notch is something that sometimes blends into the background so to speak, and then other times its glaringly noticeable. Overall, its "ok" but I still maintain the opinion that its design is very un-apple like.

I find it very amusing how you people try to convince yourself that the notch is so pleasing. This is absolutely hiiirious!
