Don't the police have more important things to do than chase lost toys? Just saying. I don't want my tax dollars wasted on lost iToys.

I hope it's not insensitive for me to say it.

It's an expensive toy, which not only valued around 600$, but also has sensitive personal data. And yes, I want my tax dollars to be used to catch those greedy thieves. I just don't want it wasted on cops chilling out, eating donuts, or hiding in roadways, giving stupid tickets to us motorists.

Is it just me or AT&T, Apple are ignoring (thus endorse) the usage of stolen phones? They got to do something about it.

The person may not be a bastard. It sucks, you set your phone down and forgot it, and when you returned, it was gone. It happens. You didnt have on find my iPhone. It happens. Are you surprised? You shouldn't be. I would be surprised if after you left your iPhone in the store, someone gave it back.
I have lost tons of things before, and I ultimately blame myself when I do. One time I left $400 on a nightstand in a Trinidad hotel. It was room service obviously. I didn't cry. I know people steal. It was my fault.

Move on.

Hey buddy could you let me know which hotel your staying at the next time your on vacation? ;)

I don't have Find my iphone on mine.

why?

because I have a iphone 3gs, and greedy Apple won't make it free.

Makes no sense.

Agree that it doesn't make any sense to not offer it on all iOS devices, however, there is a way for you to get it free on your 3GS--check out this article.

Find My iPhone has saved me from losing my iPad twice in the past year so I encourage anyone I know with iOS devices to set it up immediately--had my sister do it first thing after she brought home her new iPhone.

I have "Find my iPhone" on all of the family iPhone's. It's installed on our iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G.

I'm surprised at you people who are giving her a hard time. Just because she set it on a counter doesn't give ANYONE the right to steal it. She realizes her mistake.

I lost mine on vacation a few weeks ago and some kind person turned it in AND didn't leave their name so I couldn't even reward them. We used find my iPhone to track it to the hotel concierge where it had been turned in :) so there is still hope OP!

Maybe AT&T Family Map can help you

To the original poster ... you do have one last possible hope if you are an AT&T customer (not sure if Verizon offers the same thing) ... it's called "AT&T Family Map" - a service that costs around $9.00 per month, which can be retroactively activated, and which can be canceled at any time (i.e., if you find your phone and after you've set up Find My iPhone).

This service works similarly to Find My iPhone in that it will locate your iPhone "IF" it is turned on (and if it hasn't been switched to a new SIM, which could be the case if it was stolen).

The reason I know this? Well, last August I purchased two new iPhone 4s two days before going on a month-long trip to Europe. I purchased MobileMe for mine because I remember losing my original iPhone2G a few years prior (which I did get back - that's another story) and at that time having a MobileMe account was the ONLY way to get access to Find My iPhone. Well, in the last minute rush to get everything done before going on my trip, I didn't get around to setting up MobileMe (which would have been step 1 before I could set up Find My iPhone). Needless to say, that I left my iPhone in the seat-back pocket of the very last airplane I was on in my homestate on the return. It was turned off as electronic devices are supposed to be on flights, so I was fearful that I'd never see it. I activated AT&T Family Map and started checking it every 15 minutes. A few days later, I finally saw that it showed up on the map - the airline flight attendant had taken it home with him and thought the battery was dead (not an owner and didn't exactly know how to turn it on initially - a friend helped him out). I had already sent text messages promising a $100 reward, so I fulfilled that promise to the guy, even though he was really just doing his job.

So, give AT&T Family Map a try. If it doesn't turn up any results after a few days, then turn it off.

Caveat: I don't know if you can turn on this feature if you only have one line on your account - we had two. It may not be a problem ... just saying since I don't know for sure.

Also Make Sure You have "Badge" from App Store

The app, "Badge" - Works great on its own or in conjunction with Find My iPhone

3 days ago, my iPhone 4S 64GB with Otterbox case that I've only had for ~1.5 months was stolen also.

I'm still incredibly pissed at myself and at the whole situation. I just don't know what to do. I spent nearly $600 on that thing if you take into account the case, the apps, and I'm still locked into my 2yr contract!

I hate my situation so much. That thing organized my life. My calenders, to do lists, email, etc etc, were all synced and reminded me what I needed to do each day. It was my personal sidekick to keep me going.

Now, gone.
