You must be living in a suburb where the police have nothing to do but pull over drunk drivers and address domestic dispute cases. Here in philly it takes the cops about 30 mins just to show upto a homicide scene

Good outcome.

Of course other os's have a similar feature but maybe not quite as fluid as find my iPhone.

Cerberus on android is a very big step further.... It can be set to take pictures, videos from either camera either when commanded by a webpage or if the phone unlock code is entered. Can be made to make a call to any number too so could even eavesdrop on any thief.

A must have for android phones.

Yet, as I said apples incarnation is far far slicker.

Love the find my friends thing on it, have the eldest daughter in family sharing group and can set an alert when she leaves school or another area. Really good feature of iOS.

Here in mexico they wouldn't even consider taking a report, they would try to get you to pay them to do it though.

It's true, my sister in law got attacked and robbed and they wanted to be paid to take a report. Most here do not bother reporting anything.

Thanks all, it happened in London. I'm just so glad that my wife and her friend weren't hurt and also that we shut these low-lives down.

To be honest I was really surprised by the outcome with the Police. I've never needed them before but they were totally on the ball and gunning to get this guy. They were unbelievably good and totally restored my faith in the police. I have a new found respect for them now. There had been a lot of this happening in this area and they thought these two (one driving the van too) were the main offenders as they fit the description.

Being able to direct the police from my computer at home meant I was able to help which was amazing, as in the past we have been helpless in these circumstances, not being at the scene with our loved ones. There would have been no way they would have been caught without this tracking and we're so happy we got them.

Had my Ipad stolen from my house and tracked it to the Apple store! Called the police and they went to investigate only to be told the chap who brought it in they knew it wasn't his as he was asking could they bypass the code.

They also thought it may have been stolen but their policy is not to get involved or report it to the police. He had left before they arrived. The police are incensed at Apple for their culture in letting criminals escape.

While I wouldn't come down so hard on the guy like that, I do sort of agree with you. It's too bad there is no real freedom, otherwise what you suggested would be quite possible. Some people call this anarchy, but that word has a stigma attached to it. It truly is real freedom though..

No, real freedom is living in a society with no governance and very few countries have that. Not to mention they are usually in civil war. People in Western society like to harp on about freedom and deciding justice for themselves but there are far too many interpretations of it. I am sure the guy who stole the phone felt he had the freedom to take it but we need boundaries and the authorities are best in place to govern this sort of thing.

Same thing happened in a VERY well off neighborhood near me.

Two guys broke in, tied up the family of three and stole over $100k in jewelry and took their iPhone and iPad. The phone was found smashed on the road leaving the house probably so they thought they couldn't be tracked....but they kept the iPad.

Police tracked the robbers to a house where they arrested one and the other shot himself in the head!

It would be great to see this sort of technology, in the future, becoming small enough and embedded in every day items. The potential of that could mean that this sort of crime and muggings could be stopped all together.

I have since thought I may buy some old iPhones just to use as tracking devices, concealing them in travel luggage, camera bags etc.

Either way, one of the main reasons I write here is so hopefully people spreading the word that these low lives can't get away with this sort of thing any longer. Don't ever mess with my wife!!!

I'm sorry to hear that other peoples experience with police have not gone well. That's terrible. What a difference a great police force makes, very grateful for ours.

Too bad you called the police. A real man would have gone by himself with a shotgun and "dealt with" those vile scum and set an example for the community.

A "real man" wouldn't need to hide behind a shotgun to deal with his problems. But whatever dude, I'm sure your vigilantism makes you the pride of your community.

Or maybe you're some 12-year-old kid acting tough on the internet for the other big boys to see. Who knows?

Sam Clemens would have been booted from this board straight off.

That is pretty freaking cool when it worked as planned with you "at the helm."

So, you do not in fact want real freedom.

Look I'm not advocating violence or murder, don't get me wrong, but I would like to have real freedom. I think if people knew their victim could actually fight back with impunity, they may actually think twice about doing them wrong. You may say this would mean everyone would be living in fear- but I call it common decency. Anarchism does not equate to chaos.

I don't think the thought of a victim fighting back is a deterrent at all. Criminals generally weigh up the risks in situations like this and regardless of the reaction I think they would have a go. Much like people don't stop smoking or try it knowing full well it gives you cancer. People need restrictions put in place because human beings are not always rational. If somebody robs me I would defend myself regardless of whether I will be punished for it or not. It's instinct.

I am happy with my level of freedom and voting in who I wish to make the rules.

I wholeheartedly disagree.

Good for you my friend, but I prefer more freedom and less restriction. Also, very rarely does an elected official make choices that favor the people. It's an antiquated system and quite frankly, useless and a lie. You have the illusion of choice.

Criminals are actually more frightened of gun-toting private citizens than cops, as they perceive the former as more trigger-happy.
