They were beauties way back then.

I wanted one very much at the time and probably should have bought one.

Instead, I waited a few years and got a Mac Pro 1.1.
Probably a far better choice but that G5 would have been very, very handy in 04-06.

Yay! Good 'ol G5 :)

:apple: PowerMac Quadcore G5, 2,5GHz
11GB RAM
250GB HD
NVIDIA Geforce 6600, 256MB VRAM
WLAN/Bluetooth-Modul
Pioneer DVR-107D

For everybody who might be interested... please note that I am living in Berlin (Germany). So shipping might be quite expensive to your place, if it is outside of the EU and import tax could strike as well then.

If you are interested, please write me a private message. I don't want to discuss these things in public! ;)

I would love another G5,I plan on getting one so I don't have to use my MB in desktop mode all the time,I plan on getting a dual 2Ghz,4GB DDR ram,and a 250GB HD.there like $500 on ebay right now and a really good deal.

Here's mine :D
I both it as good but it turned out to be a bit faulty (the fan's were blowing at full speed all time , I did not find any fix on the web so I did note use it often , so around 1 year it just was hanging around in my room) I both a G4 and used that one after both a MDD also ;around 6 months ago I finally fixed the problem whit a mechanical fan controller and from then on I used it as primary PPC , I was astonished how well it went (I had Q6600 before , and the q was not so quick in websites and WinOS) so I eventually both a 7800GS and flashed it , it's crazy I can Play DOOM3 at max out :D

I wanted to buy a G5 With PCE and DDR2(non-ecc) in december (I had 8 gb of DDR2 laying around) but I didn't managed to pull the transaction off ...
I honestly think a Dual G5 With PCIE , 8x2gb DDR2 and a FX5500 would be a killer I love the G5 design with 1 Superdrive better than the Mac Pro...
And the PowerPC cpus just goooo NORISC INVOLVED.... I wish mac would have kept on going with PowerPC IBM's the new 7 processor from IBM is a server dream . Good TImes.... Before the DARK INTEL EMPIRE :p

I wish [Apple] would have kept on going with [PowerPC]

I know, right? Nothing says elegance like an oversized space heater with a big mouth.

I do enjoy my PowerMac G4, I tend to play with it more than I use my MacBook Pro. It's just FUN! The whole thing is a wonderful experience. It's powerful, quiet, and BEAUTIFUL! It runs Leopard responsively which is all I need to hear.

I bought several PowerMac G5's recently, dual processors. I played with one of them the whole time after I stuffed a new hard drive in it. I'm almost sad to say, but because of the profit margin I was forced to sell even that one!

Although, I'd rather keep the G4, it's different from anything Apple offers today. I was a fan of the plastic Macs, but only when they did it right, such as with the new MacBook, the PowerMac G4 Quicksilver and MDD and iMac G4.

my dad gave me his powermac g5 when he got his mac pro, the 2.5Ghz dual processor model with 3gb rma and an ati radon blah (something 600 mac/pc card)

The G4 PowerMacs were really nice machines, but one thing they were not: QUIET! Are you sure you are talking about the same computers? I was forced to exchange the original fans (like a lot of other users) against better ones from a third party vendor, otherwise the noise would have been unbearable.

But I really liked the transparent look of my G4 Quicksilver back then. I think it looked way better than the enclosures of the G5s and the MacPro today...

i still have my sexy powermac g4 quicksilver as i browsing computer near the front door as my other computer is up 2 flights of stairs!! beautiful computer with the best screen apple made, the adc plasticy 17inch! still works like a dream could probs do with some tweaking though...has anyone else still got the old cinema display? you know the one i mean:

The ones with touch controls? *drools*

That's the problem with Apple, they've gone too "normal." Now their displays look like anybody else's, and their laptops the same. Way to think Different(ly).

yeh the power button and brightness are touch, and the way it pulsates when its sleeping, its unreplicable! only down side is the flaming dust that gets inside the "perspex" if thats the right word!

Yeah...I nearly puked when I had to fix a Quicksilver and the owner brought his display. Twas so beautiful and elegant, one cable does all the work...yet the base was filled with cockroach pieces and a molasses-like streak or two that ended in a tiny puddle at the bottom where-in hair and dust bunnies were entrapped...it wasn't pretty :( stuff like that should be honorably destroyed in a cremation ceremony.

I've got a G4 Quicksilver sitting right next to me. It is definitely a cool looking machine.

That's correct...

...btw, besides having 11GB of RAM installed, I added two 1.5TB Hard Drives as a RAID 1 to it (mirrored). Since I have all my music projects and work files on it, it would be pretty hard to lose everything by a HD crash... The RAID prevents me from that and from the necessity to constantly do back ups 24/7.

Video card is still the original GeForce 6600 with 256MB. I don't need more than that for my daily work.

The Mac mini on top of the G5 is an Intel Core Duo with 1.6GHz. At the moment I am using it as a test web and database server for my daily work. It will be transformed into a media center, if ever we (my wife and I) can convince ourselves to shell out the money for an HD LCD TV. So far our CRT TV is still working perfectly and we are still completely satisfied with it. Probably if one day it will brake, the time will have come... It is 7 years old now. I am curious how long it will last...

I have a funny story for you...we're still using a Sony Trinitron 40" from about 20 years ago.
XD
