I’ve had almost every iPhone since release 3, 3G, 3GS, 4, 4S, 5, 5S, 6, SE, 7, 7+ and X and a couple watches and iPads, iPods... Havent babied any of them and yet to have chipped or scratched any of them except the glass screens on a couple of them, with teeny tiny almost invisible micro-scratches and the edge of the silver chrome on the 3G or 3GS and the chrome backed iPod, the rest have been extremely hard to damage. And even after a few drops.... bangs mine were all still perfect.

stop looking for scratches and just use the device. Some small scratches won't change how it performs.

Basic and sound logic in your post. I think when someone receives a new iPhone, they tend to want to keep it perfect, but after a while, that likely has to become tiresome. You just want to use the device and enjoy it for what it is.

I wonder how all the people with screenprotectors and all those ugly fat cases (turning smartphone in a tank) treat their cars.
I guess they treat their cars the same, so big fat bumpers ALL around the car (including sides), cause the chance you damage your car is about a gazillion times higher (external factors where you do not have ANY influence on) then with your smartphone.

Let alone the cost of car damage costs compared with a smartphone. I guess with a car it's ''just'' ;) a little higher then with a smartphone

As we've all said...Yea they will both scratch

But yes...like an Apple Watch the silver can be some what polished...just have to be like crazy carful near the ports and the mic...Use the force...lol
This is why I started using wireless charging. I just place it on the charger and not have to worry about scratching the bottom.

Put a Speck Presidio Sport case on mine and started using wireless charging with the Belkin pad. However, don't really like having phone on table face up since I usually do face down. There are flashlights, water bottle, home phone etc. I sometimes reach for on my night stand and wireless charging face up is not my preference.

People who say a phone must be naked in order to enjoy it must have some sick fetish that I’m glad I don’t understand. Must have the need to feel up their phone everyday or look at it longingly like it’s the best thing that ever happened to them. Can’t understand why if it’s a tool, how having a case hinders usage of said tool, so it’s got to be some weird sensory fetish, if a person must absolutely go without one. Or maybe they need others to see that they have the latest and greatest.

Yep. Just as judgmental as assuming that anyone using a case to avoid scratches is unable to enjoy their phone. All types of incorrect assumptions flying all around.

Case or no case, the enjoyment or tool usage of an iPhone is the same. It’s a preference. And since the OP is seeing scratches where there is exposure with the case he is currently using, it is valid to suggest using a different case that offers more coverage for better protection against the scratches.

Some people like taking care of what they work hard to earn or maybe they were just raised that way. None of that hinders the usage or enjoyment of the phone for them, but I can understand how that can be so very tiresome for certain types of people.

The ones that run the phone naked are a different kind of people. I love love love hardware and design. The edge of the phone where the glass meets the stainless and swipes on that edge are smooth as butter. What case offers that same feel? None.
I never liked using an iPhone or “tool” with an added cover that takes away from the actual feel of the way the phone was meant to feel design wise and with the software.
This phone is the best feeling phone in the hand.
I don’t do it for other people I do it because I love using the phone the way it was intended.

Trust. I understand about loving hardware and design. I’m the same. My love translates into aesthetics in general, architecture, cars, furniture, etc. I love it when art meets function.

Yes, these phones feel great in hand, but they are also slippery. I’ve tried naked, but it’s annoying to drop your phone regularly, new dings appearing, wondering when the next drop will present with a cracked screen. I like keeping my items looking good - minor scratches won’t worry me, but having my phone look like it’s been in a war zone after 6 months to me is negligent. So I ended up deciding naked isn’t for me. Now when I’m home on my sofa lounging, I’ll slip off the case and use it that way from time to time, but cases don’t bother me. I am particular of the cases I choose though. Case or no case, hand comfort is important. Plus, it’s an expression of style for me.

Nevertheless, my enjoyment of the phone isn’t hindered in any way.

Some people, most people, need protection. I’ve gone caseless since iPhone 4. I had my 3g in a case the whole two years. I’ve never broken a phone. Most I’ve dropped phones 1-2 times a year. It takes an awareness of what you’re doing and holding or where your phone is most people don’t want to have to think about I guess. Caseless people are a different kind of people I guess.

every time I buy a new iPhone, I am extremely careful in first maybe 6 months, it really becomes burden, but after that I don't care any more, just throw around, put it in pocket with keys... from that time I feel comfortable and enjoy using it.
