I'm VERY pleased with the press conference and how Steve handled himself with this issue. He didn't have to give away free cases and praise us users, but he did. Apple's response to this issue and acknowledging the proximity issue and responding this fast makes me an even happier Apple customer.

Who else is with me? :D

I would....but I 'm not a tool.

Threads like this annoy me more than the threads with people moaning. It makes me
sick ti see how brainwashed people become with a certain brand or logo.

You may wanna change ur sig then...

LOL Shhhh let's not drive him away! ;)

I am only concerned for my mom. I pushed the iPhone 4 on her, and she loves the Face Time feature, but she got 3 dropped calls back to back last night. That never happened on her 3G.

She has a case, but I don't know what kind. I'll get her a bumper.

Personally, I'm with you. Did anyone really expect a recall on phones that cost Apple $180 or so to make? With over 3 million sold? And as long as they provide a fix to the upcoming phones like they promised, I have no complaints.

What?! The phrase family is often user just to mean people who share the same interests, well at least it is where I come from.

I think a lot of posts here have tried to give people perspective on the issue and it hasn't been getting through. IMO, there is NO perfect device. Every phone I've ever owned had SOME weaknesses and I just learned to work around them. My HTC Hero goes from 4 bars to 2 bars if I grip the bottom of the phone, the manual showed me where the antennae were located and cautioned me against gripping it there. I've never dropped a call but I've also just gotten used to holding it away from the antenna location. Same with the Nokia 5800 I had previously which had arguably the best reception and voice stream of any phone I've ever owned. If I held it just wrong, I could make the signal go to crap so I just stopped doing it that way. Never regretted getting the phone and went on enjoying the features. At the end of the month when the iPhone 4 is released here, I'm getting one. I'll accept that its not perfect, I'll enjoy the fact that its feature rich and works if you adapt your usage pattern, and I'll wring every bit of usefulness out of it that I can.

I have the antenna issue, but I just changed the way I hold my phone so it's not really a problem for me anymore. However, I like how I'll be getting a free bumper. I'm on the fence on getting a case for my iPhone 4 or not. I hate cases, but I won't deny that I'm a little wary of carrying it around since both sides are now glass.

100%

I knew this was completely blown out of proportion before the press conference. I was hoping apple didn't give in too much to the "hysteria". A Recall would have been completely ridiculous. So he acknowledged the problem explained it and offered users a choice. I don't know whats so hard about using a case/bumper on the phone. To all the people who refuse to be happy what did you want? Them to recall the phone and we all wait a few months for a fix? If you can't get over it RETURN IT ALREADY.

I was just going to leave this thread so I don't get accsed of being a troll or something but had ti reply to this.
When did Steve admit there was a problem? You mean when he lied and said that all phones suffer the same thing?
Ok then you tell me of another phone that suffers from the same problem. Now tell me is that problem solved with duct tape? No.
Another example is tell me one other phone thy loses all signal when a key is touching the left corner, or better yet a finger.
Don't get me wrong I like apple, but steves stubborness has got in the way this time.

he said their not perfect.
said they made it obvious of the spot to touch.
All phones have it. yes all phones arent as sensitive to it because their antennas aren't on the outside. They wanted their cake and to eat it too. they wanted a beautiful design that worked great. In most cases the phone does work great. nothings perfect. They offered a free case AND waived the restocking fee. so if you don't like it RETURN IT Their not going to recall 3 million phones cause some people refuse to put a case on it. You people are being unreasonable at this point.

I love you, Apple whiners! Thank you.

I can now get free Final Fantasy games from the App Store after all their constant b*tching, and I was a happy iPhone 4 customer to begin with! Haha! :D

Happy iPhone 4 owners gets bumper refund -> $30 iTunes Cards -> more apps = WIN, WIN

Now I am going to hear whiners complaining about other whiners...

Dude, these crybabies helped some of us out on getting FREE s***! Live with it!

No you are missing the point, it is 2 completely different problems.
Yes some phones suffer from signal loss when you block the antenna, that isn't what is happening on the iPhone 4, you are shorting the connecting of the antenna by bringing the two pieces together.
Are apple going to pay the early termination fee for peoples contracts then? Or are people expected to fork over hundreds of pounds because of a problem they can't live with? Them people are not being unreasonable at all.

I was unaware I was arguing with an antenna engineer. Then riddle me this why does this only effect people in poor coverage areas? If your "shorting" the antenna wouldn't it effect the signal in ALL areas? yes when you return the phone the contract is gone as well. The bottom line is its a bunch of people on the internet watching these videos recreating it and whining. People so obsessed with it they hold their phone this way on purpose during calls just to complain about the dropped calls. The case is now free. Use it or return it. enough is enough.

Yep, if you couple the two antennas together you will drop about 20dB due to signal attenuation. That's more than other phones when held "wrong". That said, Apple admitted that they aren't perfect and this is affecting some people, namely you. To make up for this they are offering you a free bumper to remedy the problem. If you get your bumper and you still doesn't work for you or if you simply don't like the iPhone with the case then you can return it, for whatever reason, and get your money back.

There is no termination fee from AT&T and no restocking fee from Apple for the first 30 days. All you'll pay is a pro-rated bill from AT&T (for what you actually used).

If the phone doesn't work for you even with the free bumper or you don't like it then return it and get your money back. I really don't see what the problem for you is.

Seems to me that the only people with reception complaints are those shorting Apple stock

Thats great and all but the whole world isn't America you know
Also I'm not even arguing I don't like the phone I'm just arguing valid points.

Well that doesn't explain why you can go from 5 bars to none with the touch of a key then, or why the problem can be solved by applying a bit of electival tape.

Seriously dude please take your antenna arguments elsewhere. That is not the point of this thread and there are plenty of threads for you to discuss the antenna.
