I thought this site does not promote hacking....helping him is certainly promoting.

why do people bother on helping a guy who hacks a game to avoid paying for the doughnuts !

here is my advice RESTORE IN DFU... TO iOS 6! and get a job!

Tiny Umbrella is probably pointing to its servers. Remove those and try restoring from iTunes again.

Awesome, it works now. I used shsh blobs to install 5.0 and then updated and restored my backed up.

Thanks to everyone that actually helped instead of just complaining like others. I waited to resolve the issue before I responded: Yea, I messed up a hack in a game. I said what I did was dumb, but the actual hack was simple enough and as I said I was just taking back what I lost.

No I didn't spend it. This is such a dumb thing to argue, im going to leave it at that. Again, I am very grateful to anyone who tried to help. Everyone else, you don't have anything to contribute to this forum and just bloat it with childish remarks. At least my problem is here to help those who could have a similar problem in the future, once they sift through the garbage that is.

And I just gotta say, changing a virtual number.... how is that stealing? I understand downloading a cracked game is stealing as you are enjoying the efforts of someone else without pay, by why is it anyone's business if I personally enter files I own and change values in a game? I'm serious here, I don't see the logic in calling that stealing.

U screwed ur phone up trying to steal. And trying to steal >$2 worth of game currency is idiotic. Can't believe u didn't get more negative posts.

Bookmarked this thread. I think it's more hilarious than the Simpsons game itself...:D and may well be the idea of the next episode: "Homie bricked his phone"

Back to the topic. OP you shouldn't really be jail breaking and messing with your phone with your extremely limited knowledge of the iOS filesystem and how restoration works. A walled garden is perfect for you :)

Hey everyone,

My iPhone is (or was) iPhone 4 with 5.1 untethered Jailbreak.

Im playing Simpsons Tapped out, but I accidentally make a mistake that costs me 10 donuts (valuable currency), so I try and hack the game to get em back. Hacking requires Mobile Terminal. For some reason, alpine won't work as my password. Then I do the dumbest thing of all... I delete the master password file.

I had no idea this would brick my phone. Since then, I have been trying to restore my phone in a million different ways (using iReb, TU, editing host file, shift+restore, used different itunes, different computer, etc). but I ALWAYS get 1601 error. I am humbly coming to this forum, defeated and lost, for help.

Most help videos/tutorials keep saying use iReb, but it hasn't done squat for me. Maybe its because I am going to to 6.0 now? Also, I found other forums in which other dummies like me deleted the master password file and have had the same errors and no one seemed to have found a solution for those guys as well.

Any advice or links on how I can fix this would be much appreciated

EDIT: Oh when using iReb I tried installing regular ios 6.0 with shift+restore. I didn't try making custom firmware because from the best of my knowledge you can't install a lower firmware than the newest update and there is no iOS 6 custom firmware. Am I wrong about this?

Cheaters never win! Did you get the donuts back?

So any ideas on what my next move can be? I feel this issue is so specific that we are the pioneers of solving it. Countless hours of web searching is my evidence. This thread can be a standard and momentous thread for people who delete their master.passwd file.

But seriously... anyone have any idea how this can be fixed?

EDIT: AS I said, I tried everything. I musta tried DFU and restore like 20 times already on three different computers.

Did you actually say that "we are the pioneers of solving the problem"? Seriously?? More like "you are the pioneer of the most idiotic reason ever to do something that ultimately bricks your phone". Were digital donuts that important, or did you just have no clue how serious and dangerous hacking into your phone could be?

The pioneering thing was a joke obviously, I didn't think I would have to explain how solving a specific issue that may possibly help others is really pioneering. Whatever. And what happened was that I got to comfortable with messing around with stuff and when I couldn't fix the safe mode issue, I became frustrated. I thought I could deal with the consequences if things went bad (and hey... I did fix it in the end) but it was a dumb move and a bad idea.

He made a dumb mistake granted. If anyone else is silly enough to make the mistake, but not for the reason of hacking a game then this thread will be here and help resolve the issue. All in all, no harm no foul and this thread will likely help someone in the future.
