So I've been a loyal iphone user since the first iphone. I have always loved my iphones, and when each new iphone came out I upgraded even if it meant paying out of pocket without contract. I have spent tons of money on apps and cases/accessories for my iphone. Where is all this leading you may ask? Well I was recently tempted by the devil (Android) after seeing my friends cool android phone and playing with it. So I stupidly quit AT&T, moved to verizon and bought a Droid X2. I wish I had never done it. This phone is awful, it is glitchy. You cannot play music and browse the web at the same time, you can't do ANYTHING and listen to music at the same time for that matter. No way to fix it, no help from tech support NOTHING. So Verizon gives you 14 days to return you phone with a 35 dollar restocking fee. I'm sitting here at 2:30AM after spending HOURS looking at all the other android phones and realizing one thing; none of them can compete with the iphone All of the either have stupid glitches with no fix (Music problems X2) (Random shutdowns Droid 3) or Awful cameras (Basically every android phone has a crap camera compared to iphone, don't believe me check the examples of vid recording on youtube) and the apps just aren't there, and the ones that are are subpar and potentially dangerous. (I downloaded firefox thinking hey firefox thats trustworthy, NO it froze my phone and I had to pop the battery out.)

So the moral of the story is even if you are getting bored with the iphone like me, DO NOT please please please DONT switch to android I can almost promise you will regret it. I am going to bed now, and going to Verizon the minute it opens up so I can get myself the iphone 4 again on their service. Don't care if the 5 comes out next week I cannot live with this Android garbage.

And before anyone screams fanboy, I hate Apple Laptops, and computers the only thing of Apple I like is the iPhone, and now I realize that I love it even more for literally being the best phone available these days. No contest
u should have tried a virgin mobile android phone and worst case you return the phone and are out $35 monthly charge...NO contract. Why didn't you return it within 14 days?

I switched from an iPhone 4 to an EVO for about a week. I actually liked the EVO but the battery life was terrible and I missed all the apps I had on the iPhone. Music and video was difficult to get on there as well--but I admit I did like to tinker with it a lot. There is really no tinkering with the iPhone but it works very well.

I was extremely lucky in that when I switched back to the iPhone, I did the impossible and got AT&T to give me back unlimited data even though they had discontinued it at that point.

If I ever get tempted by an Android phone again, next time I'm simply going to go ahead and get it while keeping the iPhone at the same time--until I'm sure I want to switch and give up my sweet data plan.

HATE Android

I'm only about 18 months into being a fan of Apple products. I got a late 2007 model macbook from a friend for 200.00 and it was best purchase I ever made. I also now use a Verizon iPhone 4.

When I just got a new goverment job, they assigned me a Driod2 and I HATE using it. The menus are confusing, the settings cumbersome.... simple tasks that only take 1 or 2 swipes on the iPhone require going through 4 or 5 menues on the Driod. I can't wait till I have been here a year and then they can just let you use your personal smartphone iPhone for company use as well.

Some may call me a fanboy.... so what? I like what I like and though I may dissagree with Apple as a company and hate some of their business practices, they make awesome products in my opinion.

That's what I was thinking, but now I'm wondering if I want to really wait an extra month after it is released (since there will be HUGE lineups for it and it will be sold out literally all the time)

getting one at launch isn't that hard...preorder for delivery when they open up the preorders (and by that I mean...the SECOND they open them up, don't wait till when its morning for you...if it ends up being 3AM your time, well staying up late 1 night won't kill you). On launch day, it'll be at your door probably before 2. You'll be glad you did that instead of trying to brave the line (or wait a month)

Funny, I jumped ship from AT&T after 11 years and three iPhones to the Droid X on Verizon. I love the Droid X, it's not buggy or glitchy, then again I don't load every app possible on it and just like the iPhone, I reboot once a week. I have found Verizon to be great where I am at which is better than AT&T. However, there are places I know AT&T works and my VZW phone doesn't work well (service coverage). I've found there are things Android does well and things the iPhone did better. Copy and paste is better on Gingerbread and it was a nightmare before that. I love some open aspects of Android and in some cases worry about how open it can be. I find Amazon's app store to be better than the Marketplace but overall, I'm pretty happy with the OS.

Bottom line is I happen to like the Android OS but my only regret is the size of the Droid X. It's a bit big for me in certain instances. I entered into a 1 year contract and the only reason I'm consider the iPhone on VZW is because I realize how much Apple crap I have in my house and I like the idea of just being fully integrated. It does not change the fact that I do like the Android OS.

I find these threads humorous. I own an phone 4 and a DROID X. I like them both. Each has its respective strengths. Sounds like many people have encountered issues with their android devices, but I have had very few. I am running gingerbread on my dx. As mentioned I also have a ip4. Had the 2g iphone on launch day in 2007. I own a number of apple products. Competition is good for all if us.

And before anyone screams fanboy, I hate Apple Laptops, and computers....

/MacBook pro 13in 2.4ghz 4gb & iPhone 4 + 16GB Wifi iPad 1

You hate Apple Laptops, yet you brag about owing one in your sig. Huh?

Makes me doubt anything you have to say.

Good luck in the future.

Actually I read a bunch of reviews on the x2 before I got it but none mentioned the glitches that everyone on the forums is experiencing. Engadget gave it a 8/10

Like I mentioned in other threads, I believe the iPhone 4 is the best out there. However, I have used the x2 and haven't had that many problems. Was it glitchy? Yes. Was it better than a BB? Hell yes. Did it play music and browser the web? Yes, only when I had enough ram to support the music player in the back. I'm sure you did your research but my rec. to everyone is that you should first go to the store or a friend and really try the phone out. Load up its resources by playing music, making a call, sending a message, browsing web, using apps with gps, browsing app store and what not to get the feel of how it will perform per your usage. Everyone has a different need and want out of a smartphone - one review from engadget may not be pointed exactly in your direction. My 2¢.

As per hating Apple laptops... Ok. I don't see how it relates to anything you mentioned but OK...

I only threw the laptop comment in with hopes that people wouldn't immediately call me a fanboy. The fact that I don't like the laptop but still own it is because I don't feel like selling it and it's too late to return it.
Also, lol @ the -10 feedback the Android Defense Posse is out in full force today apparently

So one Motorola Android phone on Verizon represents every Android phone out there? Not that I really care what anyone prefers, but you shouldn't single one out and then start generalizing the rest of them from that lone experience.

Try to import a HP Pre 3 for $75 in the UK/France if they can ship internationally to the States. Hard to do and they are selling out. WebOS is a much more intuitive interface than iOS and Android and $75 is dirt cheap for the bare essentials of browsing the web and storing some media content to view or listen to. Where Apple truly wins is app support, ecosystem, and profit margins. But QNX, webOS, and even MeeGo have better interfaces. Once battery technology catches up, the future of multi-tasking will be similar to what webOS and QNX brought to the table. Even swiping your finger to bring back the homescreen while a video is still playing will be something I can see Apple and Google will copy from MeeGo.

I owned 3 high-end Android phones and they all were plagued with different problems. I did the whole shebang too, rooting, custom ROMs, whatever. If something fixed problem A it just gave me problem B. I remember when I finally, FINALLY gave up on Android, I was so fed up, put my phone on Craigslist, bought a used iPhone 4 the next day... And oh my gosh. I was in heaven. I didn't realize what I was missing out on. Really, I don't recommend Android currently, unless it's your only option for a smart phone. It's funny, my friends who loved their Android phones when they got them now look at my iPhone and say they wish they had one. They have tons of problems too, for example one person's Droid Incredible randomly deletes ALL text messages. Boom, they just all disappear.

And even if you don't have technical problems, you have a lot of other limits in software. There were so many little features that Android didn't have, it drove me insane. It was the small things that really did me in.

I have to tend to agree. I used to own an iPhone 3GS. But then it broke so I got an HD2 after reading all the different customization options it has (love the phone. Easily some of the best hardware on a phone when it was released and long after). Point being I first tried out Froyo and then Gingerbread. I used many different roms of each version of Android. However each of them had some type of problem (at times I felt like the stock WinMo 6.5 that cam eon my HD2 ran smoother). Then WP7 was ported over. So far that's been holding me over (and even with the great features coming up in Mango), but now I'm ready to go back to the iPhone. That has to take the cake for best smartphone I've owned. Hence why I'm now waiting for the iPhone 5.

Honestly, that's what I call a cool story bro. Such a riveting tale, I honestly copy and pasted it to word, saved on my hard drive, backed it up on a jump drive, drove to the bank, put the jump drive in the safe deposit box, and will leave it there until my kids turn about 12 (when they can actually state their age, and ask what it is I'm showing them), when I will pick it up, put it in an old USB drive reader and relay this cool story to them and tell them, "kids, this is what a cool story should look and sound like...not like the stories your generation tells.”

I think an Apple-centric site isn't going to convince alot of people of changing anyway considering they probably have an iPhone to begin with and already made their choice. That is why they are here.

But to be fair, my Pixi Plus can't play music and browse at the same time either. The BlackBerry can do it better. My iPhone is the best at it of course. Even when I put it in shuffle mode, the flow of the songs makes sense. With the other phones, it bounces from one genre to the next and I always have to keep pressing the forward button. Only thing I don't like about iPhone is I can't preview the shuffle list like the Pixi.

I hope webOS creator, Matias Duarte, can help continue to clean up the Android OS considering Honeycomb had a lukewarm response on the Xoom. Android is a very capable OS marred by its lack of polish and confusion. But the potential is there.

Android is like New York City. Some good parts and some bad parts. Sometimes dangerous and messy.

iOS is like Disney World or if you were living in a gated community.

Exactly. I had a Droid X and Samsung Infuse and the glitches/bugs/freezes I experienced far outweighed any positives of the phone and system.

I really detest Android. I just hate the overall feel of it. If I were to abandon iOS, it would definitely be for a Blackberry Bold...

...but I never will :D

When I started my new job I got to pick any smartphone under $200 for my work phone (my personal phone is an iPhone 4 on ATT). I figured what the hell, I'll try Android and got a Samsung Infuse.

After using it a month or so, I'm not too enthused. The screen looks nice, but the OS just doesn't feel polished or integrated to me. The mail client is terrible as well. In short, I've never appreciated iOS as much as I have after using Android for a while. Maybe when it gets the 2.3 upgrade it will be better, I don't know. If not, I'll be transferring the SIM over to my iPhone 4 after I replace my personal phone with an iPhone 5.

No offense, but you're an idiot for switching carriers and phones without research or anything.

Plus, the Droid isn't a phone that represents the overall Android experience. The Droid has Motorolas skin over Android so it's not really Android in a way. The phones that truly represent Android are the Nexus One or Nexus S which run stock vanilla Android and they're waaaaay better than the Droid.

Right now Samsung makes the best Android phone. There is no reason to not have done research.

The carriers put all of their phones in the stores for you to try out.

There's an entire forum dedicated to your phone (including bugs and other issues) at XDA

Everybody and their mom likes to do youtube video reviews on phones.

There are like a dozen Android phones. Even if you only like half of them, there was a 50/50 shot of you picking one that you didn't like.

The Nexus S and the Galaxy S II are their best devices atm.
