Replacement screens for the 4/4s run about $35-$45 on e-bay and include all the tools you need to replace it . If you can replace a motherboard on a laptop, then you can replace a screen on an iPhone. also if you screw up installing the new screen and it is still within the 1 year warranty... Just take it into the apple store and because it no longer has a broken screen, They will replace it at no cost under warranty ;).
I personally have kept all 4 generations of my iPhones naked in what I like to call iPhone pocket. I usually don't like to talk about iPhone pocket but I feel comfortable and safe with you guys.. So here goes... First rule of iPhone pocket is to vote on which pocket will be dedicated as iPhone pocket. Nothing else ever goes into iPhone pocket except Iphone. That's the second rule of iPhone pocket. Third rule of iPhone pocket is to check iPhone pocket every morning to ensure iPhone is In said pocket. The fourth rule of iPhone pocket is see second rule of iPhone pocket. I hope this helps those of you who are needlessly embarrassing iPhone by dressing it in garb that should only be worn by the likes of Symbian or windows phones. :)

Well there is another positive to AC+ in that you get a second year on the warranty in case of a hardware defect. In my case, the home button on my iP4 became less and less responsive around 14 months after I got the phone and Apple would not replace or repair it because it was after the 12 month original Applecare warranty. If something like that happens to my 4S, at least I can get it replaced.

Thanks for the much needed chuckle!!

I'd be more concerned about water damage than breakage but unless you get a waterproof case (and I'm generally not a fan), then you're out of luck either way.

I also agree that apple care + should cover the first incident for free. Otherwise it's not nearly enough of a savings to play the insurance lottery with.

Wirelessly posted

Just took my fake vapor pro off. And... There's something very cool about the iPhone naked or as nature intended. A lot of work went into its design so you can spin it and read it etc and it shows. I doubt the same level of attention went into any case.

Went Naked for a while until ..... yup... I dropped it and cracked the rear glass. Then I had it in a case... Book Book... and now I am down to a Bumper. It goes naked every so often but I just don't want to crack more glass.

Day 3 of going naked and never going back!!

Of course, the idevices look and feel great without cases, but you'd be an ignorant fool to not put some kind of protection on them though - a bumper in the very least for an iphone or a cover for an ipad.

It's glass. You will drop them and they will break. It's not worth the downtime and hassle of having to repair.

Haven't you ever looked at an iPad or iPhone in the apple store? They look like complete ****, and they've never even left the table that they sit on - tethered to a steel cable.

And to anybody that thinks it's so easy to replace a broken screen - you're dreaming. The screens are glued on and require a complete disassembly and reassembly. The thing will never look the same or feel right after you glue on a new screen over the old glue.

The "$35 screens on eBay" are cheap 3rd party garbage, not official by Apple. They're not the exact size, not the right material, and look like garbage. Install these parts and gaps open up and rubber gasket seals are ruined.

I have film on both front and back. I also have the protection plan which will just replace everything and an apple store is minues away from both home and work. I also have everything on a cloud so downtime would literslly be minutes. Also the iPhone at the store don't actually look that bad.

Yeah you pretty much just save $50... But in my mind it's not even worth it. You may break your phone, you may not... But to give Apple $99 and then have to pay another $50 IF you break your phone? That is ridiculous. You should only have to pay the $99 and you get the phone replaced for free. A $100 savings might be worth it for some people, but definitely not $50.

I'm not really sure about scratching the front screen, but the back panel of glass can be replaced for $29 from Apple (plus tax). So if you just break the back panel of glass you can fix it for $29 and that's actually cheaper than having Apple care + and having to pay $50. In my mind, they really screwed up the Apple care +. I really see no point to having it... Not to mention, the majority of people that have broken phones get them replaced for free from Apple. Apple is normally pretty good with that.

i agree. i looked into the applecare but did the math and really isnt worth the money. i dont even have the insurance from verizon anymore

many cheaper options available, oem and aftermarket

Your wrong.. I replace them for a living and I buy all of my parts from e-bay. They are the exact same LCD/digitizer that comes on your iPhone. You are right and wrong about the LCD... The LCD screen is glued to the digitizer which is why the replacement kit comes with both parts pre-assembled. The LCD will already be glued to the digitizer when you get it. With the 3G/gs you can buy just the digitizer and mid-frame... And I also agree that it's not that easy to disassemble which is why I said "if you can replace a motherboard in a laptop then you can replace an iPhone screen.". Also, if you just break the back of it, your 70 year old grandmother could replace it for you. Only 2 screws need to be removed.

you should ask around and see how many color conversions and aftermarket screen replacements have been done and how many people are satisfied.

the whole end of your post is pointless and untrue

I myself want to rock my iPhone 4 naked, but the only concern is battery life. My case of choice is my mophie juice pack air, and I've been so accustomed to having that extra juice whenever I need it, and never having to worry about battery life. That would be my only concern... But I'm really contemplating it.

"Your wrong", lol.

I'm sure you make a few dollars off your craigslist ads repairing the phones of dumb iphone users with crappy parts purchased from eBay, but you're not using Apple products.

Not even APPLE uses apple parts. You think apple makes that glass and LCD panel?? Not even close.. Sanyo, and LG make the lcd displays and Corning makes the glass for the digitizer. Apple is an engineering company... Not a manufacturer. They only design the product.. Someone else makes it. Have you ever seen the Apple manufacturing plant? No? Thats because it DOESNT EXIST! Why am I feeding this troll... /ignore
