Sorry but you don't seem to be aware that the new iPad can last 9-10 hours in usage, not including standby. If yours includes standby, then I suggest you bring it to the Genius Bar at Apple for a check.

How much is Apple paying you to post these lies? Be honest.

If the price is right, you'll see a thread from me up soon.

You must be joking right? Does is it give you much joy to pretend you don't really know the iPad's battery
life?

Hmmm...but looking at your previous post on the iPad's battery, you seem to not accept the fact that the New iPad's battery life can last up to 9-10 hours, so I would assume you're not kidding.

And you seem to think all this time that Apple is paying anyone who says the battery lasts this long...oh my.

Umm.. I'm on my new iPad right now while I'm typing these posts, the only way your battery life can last that long is if your brightness is down to 30-40%. You claim to have it at 60%, which should be good for only 7 hours, 7 and a half max. Something in your story doesn't add up. Either you're making up the brightness numbers or the battery life numbers, or both.

Are you calling me a liar? There are other people here who can attest to my findings so please don't.

And yes...I was at 60% brightness when I did the test. I believe I will still achieve longer battery times now that I am at 50%

Again, my little experiment involved surfing, typing, email and not massive gaming which some people wrongly equate to normal usage.

I strongly suggest you bring your unit to the Genius Bar for a check-up.

I've had the iPad 1. I did the same thing and found out it had a defective battery and had it replaced. The difference was 2 hours less than what Apple rated it for.

My better things to do in life include looking after myself and my possessions...that's why I did this experiment. It also cost me nothing. Damn, I even thought of an app to develop now based on this.

Some people just don't care and it's those same people who sadly don't know what's hitting them from behind.

Gee I hope I do not get blind sided!!!:p

Do not forget to wax it!

Try decoding (playing) some HD videos. See how the battery life runs down by twice as fast.

Try playing some video games. It'll wear down faster. Not everyone just browse internet as normal use on iPads.

;)

Try juggling it while standing on your head and eating a twinkie...

Come on man... Apple only ever said that you get 10 hours of surf time on wifi and 9 on LTE. I would consider myself nit picky but some people on this site are just down right crazed.

Exactly. I really don't understand the heavy users' complaints. If they need to use it so intensely where they don't have access to electricity then they need to buy back up batteries or change their usage habits when they don't have access to electricity.

No company is going to focus only extreme users.. If Apple had, the iPad would weigh ten pounds.

Heavy users get 6-7 hours max, lets face it. Only time that users will get over 9 hours is a good chunk of that is based off standby time. Just stating facts.

Untrue. I get over 9 hours of usage on my normal surfing and video watching. Which is what this device is primarily for. They never gave you "gaming time whilst playing infinite blade 2 at 100% brightness and LTE on".

People seem to forget that the tablet is the device that sort of falls between a netbook and a laptop.

Unbelievable how some people just can't accept true facts. We do get 9-10 hrs of usage time (excluding standby time!!!) surfing, typing, watching movies.

I just stated the facts, it's just you that can't accept it.

Mine easily lasts that long with web browsing, emails, even some videos. If I just read a book, it would last 12+ hours easy.

Guys, why is there even any argument on this? Apple explicitly details its testing methodology for getting at least 10 hours of battery life. The tests are not hypothetical, they were all performed on real iPad units:

"Testing conducted by Apple in February 2012 using preproduction iPad units and software. Testing consisted of full battery discharge while performing each of the following tasks: video playback, audio playback, and Internet browsing using Wi-Fi or cellular data network. Video content was a repeated 2-hour 23-minute movie purchased from the iTunes Store. Audio content was a playlist of 358 unique songs, consisting of a combination of songs imported from CDs using iTunes (128-Kbps AAC encoding) and songs purchased from the iTunes Store (256-Kbps AAC encoding). Internet over Wi-Fi and cellular data network tests were conducted using dedicated web and mail servers, browsing snapshot versions of 20 popular web pages, and receiving mail once an hour. All settings were default except: Wi-Fi was associated with a network (except for Internet browsing over cellular data network); the Wi-Fi feature Ask to Join Networks and Auto-Brightness were turned off. Battery life depends on device settings, usage, and many other factors. Battery tests are conducted using specific iPad units; actual results may vary."

Your results will depend on how closely you match these default parameters. Other testing sites around the web have confirmed that as display brightness increases, battery life tremendously decreases down to 6 hours or lower. Conversely, when low brightness is used, testing has shown the iPad can easily last 11 hours or more for these sorts of everyday tasks.

There is a lot of actual testing data out there, so there's really no need for a battle of opinion.

I know about the official testing and reviewers' tests. My original post reflects that.

There is just one stubborn individual here who is claiming I am lying. I just can't take that because I'm not lying, therefore I am standing my ground. Honestly, my last response to him is my last, that's it. I'll just have to enjoy my 9-10 hrs of usage of my iPad, while he feels sad about getting lesser.

Do you have any verifiable proof to back up your claim? I seriously doubt it and that puts your "facts " in the realm of opinion.

I, for one, am extremely pleased with the battery life. I had expected that I might have to buy an auxiliary battery but doubt that that will be necessary. I should have known better than to listen to all the chicken Littles.

Bam!!! Thank you. :)

I'm going to shoot a 10 hour video to post on youtube just to prove it to that one guy... cause it matters to me so much... :p

I'm not... totally kidding. I have better things to do with my life... like poop.

Because after 7 hours, you would need to pause the video, charge the iPad, then edit the video to make it seem like it's all in one shot.

Yeah it's getting worse and worse with each new product. I am pretty nitpicky myself but at some point it's time to quit spending your life stressing about gadgets.

Granted, I've only been using mine for web browsing and light apps like Flipboard since I got it two weeks ago but I'm still on the original out of box charge. And even then, it came out at only 80%. I have yet to plug it into any sort of power source.

16gb wifi model
50% brightness + auto + wifi enabled

Only if my life sucked like yours apparently does...

Dud iPad, cheating girlfriend, dead dog and broke down truck...

I mean it man, my condolences for your crappy life. :p

Sorry to hear all those events happening in your life, things will get better on the next gen iPad (hopefully).

All this discussion about the battery life made me curious and I tested my own new iPad.

I completely emptied the battery last week, it ran down from 100% and was completely empty last Sunday at 11.30 am. I then recharged it to 100%, this took approximately 5 hrs and 45 mins until 05.15 pm.

Then I used the following setting:
Brightness set to approximately 60 % (just a little to the right of the sun symbol, so it could have been 55 %, could also have been 65 %), automatic brightness adjustment enabled, when unused, the iPad remained in standby-mode (never completely turned off). Whenever in use, the iPad was on WiFi, never on mobile internet. Whenever I used the iPad for the last time, before going to bed, I set it into "airplane mode".

I was making sure that I was using the iPad "normally", as I would, if I didn't run this "test".
My day-to-day iPad tasks include the following: browsing the internet, reading and writing emails, watching videos on youtube, listening to music via iTunes Match, talking on Skype and writing messages with IM+. Furthermore, I am regularly browsing PubMed (with PubMed on Tap), reading PDF (mostly articles from PubMed or the Scientific American) and reading word documents in Pages.
I am also regularly using the Wikipanion+ app to do interesting read-ups on Wikipedia. And on a few occasions I edit one or the other photograph in iPhoto.
So all in all, these are pretty moderate tasks as compared to what other people here are doing.

During my "test period" I did all of those things, the emphasis was probably on surfing the web and emails, I only did the odd Skype call and just a little of photo editing. However, all of the tasks above were performed over the course of the week.

So what did I get: I started to drain the battery beginning from 100% last Sunday evening at around 05.15 pm and I finished draining it at 0% today, on Saturday at around 09.15 pm. I made exact notes of all the usage times. And I mean really the times that the iPad was actually in use, which means I was performing tasks on it.

I came out at a whopping 753 mins or in other words 12.55 hrs or 12 hrs and 33 mins of use. The rest was standby time, if you do the math 111 hrs and 27 mins, since I never completely switched the iPad off.

So you can always argue that I am not playing 3D games or watch HD movies. This would probably significantly reduce my usage time. Also setting the display brightness to 100%.

But for the way I am using the iPad, it's one hell of a battery life.

As I said, I didn't do it, because I was worried, I would be "cheated" of an hour of battery life. I was just interested due to all these discussions here.

Best regards,

Sebastian :)
