The good thing is: this problem solves itself in March with the release of iPad mini with retina. According to front page news and my dreams.
I tried several times and really wanted to buy one but I also can't enjoy reading on the screen after all the retina devices around me.

It's an issue for me. I got spoiled with rMBP and iphone5. I'll definitely snatch a retina mini when they become available. Crossing my fingers for March..
