Hmm...

Mow people's grass
Give out weekend papers (with bike or car)
Babysit
Help older people around the yard (They pay BIG :D )

Thats all I can think of. How old are you though?

EDIT: I see your 17, you are old enough to work anywhere (unless your hundreds of miles away from civilization). Here is a quote from a wise old man: "Anyone willing to work can find a job"

Well, looks like the only one from you list that I can do is to help old people with their yard. I'm allergic to grass, I never learned how to ride a bike, I don't have a license, and nobody in their right minds would trust me with their kid. :)

You can't always meet all the goals you make, but knowing that you tried hard to acheive them is what you should be proud of.

There are restrictions upon how hard we can work, how long we can work, etc.

I would say stick with your goal, keep saving, even though you can't work anymore. Maybe wait until Chrismas when you get some more cash. If you wanted to I suppose you could sell things that have little value to you. Maybe get try the stock market. I would also say move on, make a new goal, and don't let your other goal bog you down. Maybe have some academic goals set out, that might be more feasible to achieve in that they are not mercenary.

Don't fall into the "I will be worthy if I get an iPhone" trap. You have the rest of your life to work hard and buy expensive toys... enjoy the simpler things in your youth and talk to more girls.:p;)

I don't care wether I am worthy or not. I just want an iPhone because it's the coolest thing I have ever seen. I can be content with what I have, but all I do during the summer is exist, so I saw the opportunity to pursue a goal. I may not meet the goal, but at least it's giving me something to do. :)

That's good. I forgot what it was like to want a new Spectrum surfboard in H.S. and not have the money for one... so I put a used board on layaway and settled for what I believed I could reasonably achieve. Minimum wage was $3.15 back then in the '80s.:p I bagged groceries all summer. Got a nice used board, no it wasn't a new Spectrum, but it worked good enough. A few years later when I was able and qualified to make better money, I got a new Spectrum. And another one. And another one...... and because there was a time when I could not have what I really wanted, I have a grateful attitude about the luxuries I use today. There will be something cooler than the iPhone that comes along some day when you have accomplished your goal and you can have it. Just keep moving in the right direction.;)

Re: I need advice from some of the wiser MR users

I don't know whether to respond to the title or the cry for help.

For some reason the grizzled old veteran MR user like me tends to lean towards the "wiser" response.

Since it would be a wiseass response, I think I'll move on.

Edit: a sucker to cool marketing, being content, existence, or pursuit of a goal -- dump the last three and give your money to Apple. :p

Some places require you to be 18. (Apple Store, etc)

I'm working on it :D seriously, I am.

Anyways, if you try to limit yourself too much, you aren't going to find a job. That's my biggest problem, I don't wanna work food service, which just so happens to be where the majority of high schoolers work.

I know what you mean about food service. :D

Food service isn't as bad as you think.. DEPENDING on where you work. Obviously McDonalds or some other fast food place is going to suck balls. But if you can get a job at a decent restaurant waiting or busing tables, you can make some decent money.

I worked as a bus-boy for 2 years and it was decent. Hard work sometimes but payed well. I made minimum wage plus any tips I got from customers plus 10% of the waitresses tips. So on a good friday night I walked away with like 50-60 bucks in tips on top of the 40 bucks of wages. So I ended up making like 15 bucks an hour.

If you wait tables, you can make even more.

Wow, well I feel sorry for you :(. But about the bike it's really easy to learn how to ride. And I think the newspaper job gives you $40 a week-end.

You should live with me for awhile, you would use muscle you didn't even know you had!
