BEST POST!!!

With a MBP 17 it will be more than enough (with the stock ram). I do serious working, in HD, and you will be more than ok with this setup. Dont throw away 11k!!! you are 16

Going to college?

I would reccomend buying a 15.4in 2.4GHz MacBook Pro, or the refurb 2.33 15.4 incher. I would normally reccomend the 2.2GHz one, but you need the extra GPU power.

Then instead of a Mac Pro, get a sleeker 20 inch 2.4GHz iMac with 2GB RAM.

Dont bother upgrading the Pro's RAM. 2GB is enough to keep you speedy, and if you need more, then buy through OWC.

I'm an artist, my dad has a masters in art and also owns his own printing and design business above other things, so I have ready access to all the means to make money with the hardware I'll be buying. It's very easy for me or any other teenager to make $2xx a month, so please get off the subject of payments and onto the hardware I'll be buying.

if your dad really did have this company he could simply write off your $11,000 equipment and pay with all that cash he has. $11,000 for computer equipment on a credit card is the dumbest idea i've ever heard of in my life. you'll be bankrupt before you even get started....

200 dollars a month is 2200 dollars a year. After interest that's 6 years.

Haha.

Do the math. You'll never be able to pay it off. The Mac Pro will be outdated bt then.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

The Mac Pro isnt *that* outdated

*pats Maccy* there there, dont listen to them :)

PS. Close this thread, its boring and old now... and yes, I will carry on posting till it is :p

ya I was going to suggest the same thing, wasn't very good to begin with, but now the guy who wants to blow all his money is gone.

I don't know what just happened in this thread. but if I had $11k, aka £5.5k I'd buy-

No laptop. Since there's no sub 15¨ MBP.
24¨ iMac

Or just invest it in my studio. Which would be a few Mac Pros.

Buying $11k worth of computer equipment is foolish at 16. A 15" MBP is fine at 16. Then if you have the cash stick the rest in a savings account or shares/bonds, as then you can save up for expensive but boring stuff in the future, like a deposit for a house ;).

I would just like to echo that you should probably settle on a MBP with a nice monitor so that you can carry your laptop around with you and "hook it up" to the monitor, external drives, keyboard, and mouse and use it essentially as a desktop.

External drives are a must for back ups, you can never be too careful in your line of work.

No single person buys computers worth $11,000 at one go. Not even the most professional professionals. I mean, really, even if you get like the 8-core Mac Pro and put 16MB in it as well as 4TB hard drive then buy the 30" ADC, I suspect you can get it even cheaper than $11,000. And unless you run a well-established design/printing/art/whatever company, you will utilize not even half of the power that the system is capable of.

And "buying" it from "Mom's pocket" (come on, be realistic, it's your Mom's money, not yours, even if you "pay her monthly", yeah right, like every 16 yo kid promises their mom to buy her monthly when they owe money..) doesn't seem like a responsible thing to do (not that you should be responsible of anything this big since you're only 16).

I suggest you do what you can do with whatever you have right now. This is not a responsible way to "start a business" in any way. That's why people in this forum trying to remind you. I'm sure there are a lot of experienced professionals on here that are willing to educate you not only on the aspect of "which machine to buy", but in general more on "how to actually start your business in a way that it will sustain and you will get the success that you have always wanted".

You said your dad owns a printing/design/whatever company, why don't you use any of his machines and make it work for whatever jobs and business that youll get along the way?

I understand how it's like to be 16 and wanting (or you thought, "really really needing") something, which you actually don't need at all.

Well, I hope your Mom knows better on what is right and appropriate for her kids.

Not if he is borrowing it! He has someone else's money, the kind souls who will lend it to him, and in return they will expect payments - each month, on time, no exceptions. Unlike mom and dad they will not be nice if you don't pay up.

Going to be a Debt slave at age 16, wow

See if you can get your credit on your own, if the banks will lend you 11k then your are a sure bet....if you need mom to act as your agent then you ain't ready for the real world. The real world does not pay $100 for 20 minutes typing...your dad paying you $100 is just you're dad being a dad, thats what they do.

Ahhh....to be 16 again :D

That's a painful revelation, but hey.. life is painful, sometimes.. :D
