So Playstation is a competitor to XBox but they made it anyway. Macs are a competitor to Windows, and while it is not likely there will be a Mac version, they have already demonstrated a willingness to release software for competing platforms.

So?

They also made it for the switch, but not for the mac, and that means seeing it for the mac in the future is highly unlikely.

So?

It would be a most triumphant return to Mac for id, because up through Rage, the Mac got versions of every id title. And Nightfall - who is working on this project - also worked the remastered version of Turok and Turok 2 (both of which are on the Mac). About half of Nightfall’s titles on Steam are on the Mac, so I’ll be rewarding Nightfall’s support with my dineros, and I’ll be pestering them about Mac support for Quake, which, for some reason, I lost my retail CD of Quake some years back, so, the only version I can legally play now is the shareware one.

If you seriously want to play the Mac version of Quake, you can still find used Mac CDs - but I’m not really clear what you would do with a PowerPC game at this point anyway. It would probably be easier to just get a Switch or Switch Lite.

yep and given the timing an work required to remaster it's fairly likely they undertook the work prior to being part of MS, i.e., the deal wasn't closed when they started the remaster project.

It would have been but its not

Again let me go back to your first post
this is the perfect time for Apple, id Software and Machine Games to start some heavy petting, and get back into Mac gaming!
I don't see Microsoft and Apple starting some heavy petting as you put it, given that Microsoft's emphasis is to have people sign up and pay for their game pass subscription.

is boot camp not an option for you?

I did spend a year dual-booting back and forth between macOS and Windows 10 in 2019, but ended up having some BSOD issues with my Bootcamp install, so I just uninstalled it and decided to just stick with macOS. Some time after that, I had my hard drive upgraded to an SSD, and ended up wanting to see how well it would run games with the change. For some reason, Bootcamp wouldn’t finish setting up. I retried about half a dozen times, no luck.

I even used the same flash drive that worked before, still the same Mojave as before, and same 2012 iMac as before, too. The only thing that was different is the newest version of Windows.

You should be asking ID, not Apple. The frameworks already exist.

Oh, I’ve been asking everyone involved in the title, including a Kex engine guy from Nightdive Studios. He posts on his YouTube channel under the name of Modern Vintage Gamer.
You can see my comments on it here:

I'm sorry, Mike, but I'm not under any obligation to agree with your opinions, no matter how many times you repeat them.

Moderator or no Moderator, it doesn't make your comments more correct.

Of course not, nor do I expect everyone to agree with me, simply because I have the staff member badge under my name. I'm offering my opinion as a member, not more no less. Some may agree, some may disagree. I respect both sides.

They made a PlayStation version…

There is value in making it for any platform it will sell well on and make the return worthwhile. The thing that I hear often with developers when it comes to Mac is that the gaming audience is simply not big enough for them to risk time, effort and money on.

It’s just a bit weird, because you don’t normally post in my threads in ways that are critical of optimistic and active Mac gamers, yet that seems to be the only “side” that you’re expressing. Twice now, you’ve requoted my OP, amd offered critiques that dismiss my optimism.
Why was that repeated criticism necessary for you to repeat? Tell me more.

I've played this on Xbox and it's honestly not that much of an upgrade. They have some sort of motion interpolation to make the character animation a bit smoother, and the lighting is slightly tweaked, but it still looks old and ugly. They still have the same ultra low res text on the menu screens.

Quake 2 RTX was a genuine massive upgrade, and it was free. This one doesn't deserve the 'remaster' tag, in my opinion.

I can't speak of the future, but also Apple has historically was not really interested in the gaming sector. Far too many macs over the years had under-powered GPUs. Add in the fact that Macs represent a 10%+ marketshare of overall PCS, and of that subset, there's just a small niche of Mac users willing to play games. I can see that having a chilling affect on game developers.

Indeed, the evolution of the Mac in terms of gaming has less to do with Apple's interest in the segment and is more simply related to the GPUs naturally catching up to a level that makes them a more capable gaming device than seen in the past.

Apple Silicon brings the opportunity to change things significantly but not until the masses upgrade and that will take years.

Mike Flynn,

Any chance of reading a reasoned response from you anytime soon on post #16, please?

That was old Microsoft, the new strategy is to be Xbox and pc exclusive , all future betsheda games will be Microsoft only , they have so much money they can just ignore some sales if that makes their platform stronger , PlayStation are getting the exclusive treatment back , and looking at both companies war chests , it’s a no contest , just look at the price of the subscription from MS , money ? Naaa , just get ppl in , PlayStation has great brand but it will be hard to compete vs Microsoft corp might now that they made it a point to win in this space, So if they went with this strategy vs Sony , there is no way in hell they will strengthen apple platforms by bringing games over and solving the biggest issue with the echo system.
