Err i hate to say it but none of those companies are Japanese!

Nokia is Finnish, Samsung is South Korean, and Motorola is American! (hence the name Motorola as in 'Motor Roller' as they started out making car phones)

Just thought i'd straighten that one out

wow....my bad lol

Hey this is MacRumors;
I like the rumor that the iPhone was stolen from the Koreans (guess Apple stole the manufacturing tools since I haven't seen the phone from Korea)
And all cellphones are made in Japan, (except the stolen one)
But, Moto Roller named for cellphones in cars is my favorite. :)

Heh! I was about to come here and make a new post about this little gem that I found on my local Craigslist site, then I saw this post and as it turns out, looks like the same hogwash. WTF is this thing? Is it a legitimate knockoff or jsut some bad photoshop project?
It's a real phone (Cect P168), but doesn't look very good, form & function wise, from the videos I've seen. Just go to youtube and search for iphone clone.

If you are going to correct someone, at least get your correction correct! :p The company dates from the late 1920s, but I believe it was after WWII that they changed their name to Motorola. In any case, it was well before the advent of mobile telephony.

You are partially correct in that the name change was to accent "motor" in their name... only it was for car radios, not phones.

Yes, and also "roller" had nothing to do with it. The company's name was an homage to the venerable Victrola, and Motorola was just one of several companies trying to cash in on that name power.

I apologise i had a check on wikipedia after i posted that and realised i was wrong about that (well mostly wrong).

Motor was because they made car radios and -ola was a popular ending for things to do with sound ie Victorola so they had Motorola which is pretty much what you guys said. I'll have a quick google before i correct next time :p

This board is the bomb. People actually take the time not only to research things, but apologize when they didn't research enough. I'm just posting to up my post count, btw, so I can post in the l33t political forum.
