I never turn off iPhone 7, but it sometimes ask me to enter my passcode?
Perhaps every other day or so.... strangely, usually in the morning. (not
accepting my fingerprint but insist on me entering my passocde, which
is 6 numbers)

Is this normal behavior?

I used to wake in the dark early mornings. I would try to open my phone, but missed 5 times. Then it would require passcode. 5 failed attempts with fingerprint, and then it requires passcode.
It will always ask for passcode if you use numbers and letters in the passcode. But not numbers only.

Alpha-numeric passcodes work the same with Touch ID, literally no difference.

According to Apple, the passcode is required when:
  • The device has just been turned on or restarted.
  • The device has not been unlocked for more than 48 hours.
  • The passcode has not been used to unlock the device in the last six days and Touch ID has not unlocked the device in the last eight hours.
  • The device has received a remote lock command.
  • After five unsuccessful attempts to match a fingerprint.
  • Setting up or enrolling new fingers with Touch ID.

Hmmm if I don't turn mine off for a few days it never asks for the passcode, it only does that after it's been switched off and on charge over night.

Does it require a passcode after a respring event? It's been so long since I've had one on mine that I can't remember

I bet this has a lot to do with the time the justice department asked apple to hack into its own phone. Didn't they say they could make you unlock it with you Touch ID but not with your code? I'm willing to bet that is why they changed this.

I find this happens to me often when I use my non fingerprint scanner finger to wake up the phone to peak my notifications. It reads these as failed attempts because the fingerprint scanner is so quick.

This is the key (Quoted from above):

"The passcode is required when the passcode has not been used to unlock the device in the last six days and Touch ID has not unlocked the device in the last eight hours."

If you don't turn off your phone then you will likely have to enter the passcode at least once a week. There is no way around that. Apple is looking out for you. :)

I have the same issue, and it seems to be random. The issue also happens with unlocking my MBP with the AW. No big deal, but the timing/rules doesn't seem to fit with what bcave098 linked.

It is, after 48 hours continuous use, your iPhone will request the passcode. Restarted or not.

Not sure about anyone else but my iPhone 7 is constantly trying to unlock in my pocket. I'll feel it warming my leg, pull it out, and Siri will be pulled up or I'll see the phone asking for my pin from too many failed attempts to use Touch ID. Never had this problem with the old home button.

Your phone should not be waking in your pocket. Maybe turn off always on Siri and raise to wake and see if that stops it.
