Other i-Phone XS vs XR for techie

Undoubtedly the S10+ is really nice hardware, but do you really think consumers just generally switch because of the hardware? I would say the software is likely/equally just as important, if not more when they factory a decision like that. Realistically, I don’t think it’s the hardware someone’s willing to migrate to, it’s more or less the decision between android and iOS.

I don’t know why people switch phones. Some may switch due to hardware. It’s impossible to read people’s motivations and some make some bold claims.
The thing is for the person you quoted, I like to tweak my computers...my iPhone I’m content with the way it is.
I was at Apple today. I compared them side-by-side for over an hour. I'm 99% sure I'm going with the XR.
The XS is a great phone. It's just that I really like the look of the XR's LCD display. The screen responsiveness seemed quicker on the XR as well. The slightly thicker body made it easier to pick up too. The rounded edges on the new phones make them harder to grab when laying on a desk/table.
As far as the suggestion to go Android... Sorry, not my thing.
I've worked in CS/Tech for Verizon and had great exposure to the dessert named OS phone. Let's just say... No thanks.
I'll take iOS over Android any day.

I would say for me the OS in some aspects is more important than the hardware. The hardware can be the latest and greatest thing of beauty but if the OS doesn't meet my needs then it's not good. On the other hand if the hardware is slightly outdated but the OS is exactly what I need and want then I'm happy. I'm not going to say one OS is "better" but rather they are different for different needs and wants.
As to the XR it's an awesome phone. I'm seriously considering switching from my XS Max next year when the new version comes out (XRS? LOL). The color choices are awesome and I like how the screen looks.
Wait till next year and the rumoured XR upgrade to an OLED screen.. and it’ll have the dual camera system then.

I don't see the XR going OLED and dual cameras because then it wouldn't be an XR but rather an XS Medium between the XS and XS Max. That also would mean the price would fall between the two. I see Apple upgrading the screen rez just to shut up the "bbbuuuutttt it's not 1080P" crowd. Maybe they will up it to IP 68 but I'm not even sure about that. I think Apple doesn't want to increase the price so they will work hard to keep it within that budget.
Naturally, if Apple uses an OLED panel on the XR, that only will increase the price point. The most expensive component on the iPhone XS is the OLED panel, so that’s obvious why Apple is using an LCD panel on the XR. As for the dual camera, that’s likely the next upgrade for the XR, but still manageable enough where it shouldn’t raise the price point considerably/if not at all. Keep in mind, The whole intent of the XR is to keep the price point substantially different from the XS, which Apple knows that they have to keep it retained lower to be a more attractive price point, but for China’s market as well.

It makes perfect sense, give the XR an OLED 1080P screen so it has better resolution but not as good as the higher end models, and give it a dual camera as the new higher models will get triple lens cameras. Their is still more then enough to make people feel like they have the premium model over an XR with OLED and dual camera.
