buy now, upgrade later?

I'm now tempted to buy one of these now, start chugging away at the 18 month contract and then upgrade to a 3G in June, does anyone have any evidence for the the likely policy for upgrading? What happened when they introduced the 16Gb iPhone model?

(I'd unlock my 'spare' phone once the upgrade is available)

I've just looked on ebay and people are still bidding way over £200 for the 8GB version.

It seems that this news isn't travelling all that fast.

Yaay just walked into my local O2 store and £169 later walked out with a new 8gb iPhone.

Yes I noticed a lot of people are still bidding huge money for 8Gb iphones on Ebay! guess news has yet to filter through to the masses.

I will get this one jailbroken and play with it until the new 3G comes out then pass this onto my wife who will doubtless fill it with photos and rubbish pop music.

Now whats the cheapest/best way to jailbrake it?!

ZiPhone

this may be a silly question, but anyway...when buying the iphone in O2 store, do u have to show some ID to prove citizenship - because they expect u to activate the phone(and pay month fees).

No you dont. I was in and out in 2 minutes.

DO NOT USE ZIPHONE!

Use the Pwnage Tool or iLiberty+

ZiPhone is known to damage iPhones.

Unlikely. Very Unlikely.

O2 changed some cheaper tariffs for the iPhone recently (not seen on Apple.com, but on O2.co.uk), so it's already partially cheaper.

And £100 is a heck of a lot. That would make it £169. Thats around $340. Thats $59 cheaper than in the States - this would never happen. Never. Ever.

Never? That's a pretty strong and definitive word. Considering the poster was essentially dead on and you were dead wrong, maybe in the future you should reconsider the way you address speculation, by not using such absolute and certain terms. Not even Steve Jobs says "never".
