Dumb question for the day: Does the 2009 Mac Pro use the same ram as the 2010 models? $165 is a great deal for 8gigs. Im tempted to do this upgrade as well, but I have a 2009 quad core.

09 uses the same RAM as the 2010 Quads.

The 2010 Quads can also use the 1333 RAM (but the board will run it at 1066)................ not sure about the 09's.

cheers

Like what was said, 2009 models will run 1333Mhz RAM at 1066Mhz, but I'm not sure if the 2009's are as compliant in their using different RAM. My guess is that they are, but since the 2010's use different firmware on their boards, maybe they aren't.

Did you notice that your disk speed dropped with more RAM?

yes it did but the two tests are on an external raid0 with a pci card.

I need to test my internal 6tb raid0.

with the three 4gb sticks and the four 1gb

sticks also with the oem three 1gb sticks . remember that xbench is an old program. I won't be able to post more tests until monday.

aja

geekbench

did you ever run the test after the new memory? thanks

Hi,

Just one question. Is it better to use "12GB(3x4Gb) ECC DDR3-1333 Tri-Kit + 4 GB ECC DDR3-1333" or maybe is better two kits of "8GB(2x4Gb) ECC DDR3-1333" on a New Mac Pro mid-2010? With both configurations get 16GB, but I would like to know which combination is better.

Thank you very much !!!!!!

P.D Sorry for my english. Google do the job!!!

It can work, but it will only run at 1066Mhz rather than 1333Mhz. Not a big difference for everyday usage. Just make sure that you fully test it once you install it to make sure there are no errors or problems.
