Can't remember the last time I actually clicked using a trackpad. With tap to click and three finger drag, there are much better, more precise options. Still can't figure out how I'd make use of it.

This. Clicking on a trackpad has never worked for me. It just feel so weird and out of place. Especially click and drag.

Tap for the win.

You're right, we're all delusional and just don't know. You, on the other hand, are The Master of the Universe. You can certainly tell us what you think. Don't tell us what you know that we're supposed to think because you're so sure that you're right and other people are wrong.

I'll agree it feels like a click. But it does not feel EXACTLY like the old click. Unlike all the delusional people here who believe so.

I'll admit it's a bizarre feeling but I really like it. The more I use it the more I realise it is the future.

You really can't get along without going on ego trips and insulting everyone else? Post your home address and we'll mail you all of our useless machines so you can dispose of them and keep the world safe for anachronisms.

Wow. That's a great idea! I love that the word delusional set everyone off. Lol. Wasn't trying to troll. But man, you guys are setting it up so well.

Don't you mean "eating it up so well"? You really aren't good at phrasing things are you? I get that you like to get on people's nerves but can you at least put some thought into how you do it?

Setting yourself up to be trolled. lol dude. Nice try

I was able to play with it on a rMB at my local apple store. It seemed decent, most things in my very quick and informal test seemed to fine. I couldn't tell too much if it was a force touch or traditional touchpad.

Perhaps the differences would be more noticeable once I sit down and use it for hours on end, but so far in playing with it. I thought it was ok

There are several differences, but the one that I notice most and the only one I really care about is the uniform feel from top to bottom. The "force touch" at this point seems like a gimmick for most purposes, but it's a brand new hardware feature. Over time, software developers will probably find ways to make it practically useful. That's presumably why Apple now has the new pad in all 2015 machines (other than the MBA line - which is another factor that raises questions about the future of the MBA, if the rMB didn't raise enough questions).

Agree there's still too few actions that can be done for a force touch but I've had fun searching them out. I do find a couple actually useful like creating a calendar event (instead of double-clicking) and being able to preview a link in safari (which I don't think is even available through other gestures but don't exactly know). It will be interesting to see if developers embrace the concept and if so what actions they add in the future.

The MBA may be discontinued or rebranded. It was called the MBA for the "its light as air" factor. But now the MacBook is far lighter that the MBA. Realistically the MBA has no place. rMB is lighter and just about as powerful, its pretty close. Then the next step up in the 13in MBP. I personally think the MBA is a better product than the rMB as the rMB is fairly limited by only one USB-C port, plus the MBA has i5/i7 options as the rMB uses the intel-m. The MBA is the cheapest MacBook so they may rebrand it, but idk

I suspect the answer to your points is evolution and repricing of the rMB over the next year or two, but like you, IDK. ;)

Couldn't agree more, force touch is terrible. As a programmer I do a LOT of work on my macbook moving between work and home. After a few days straight of using it my pointer finger becomes bruised and slightly purple. It's probably not as much of a problem for fatter people but it's very, very difficult to continue using my macbook without it. This never happened with my old macbook pro. I am positive it's because there is no depth when you click.

If you're getting bruises from clicking on your trackpad, you're using it wrong.

Hehe I don't even know how you could use it incorrectly. But I am serious. I'm quite thin so I think that probably has in part to do with it but as I said, it never happened with the older macbook pro models.

Do you get bruises on your fingers when typing on an iPhone or iPad on screen keyboard?

On the rMBP, you could just enable tap to click. Or adjust force required to click.

When I first got my 2015 rMBP, I had an issue where I was just pushing too hard out of habit. When I finally got myself to get used to gently pressing I love it. Going back to the MacBook Airs I have at school and my old White MacBook is jarring. It feels like I have to press so hard on them to get them to click after I've gotten used to the Force Touch feel.
