I'm still using a 2010 cMBP and I find the upgradibility to be quite nice. So far, since buying the laptop, I have upgraded the ram from 4 to 8gb. Installed a Optibay drive with a 1tb HD and replaced the factory HD with a 640HD SSD hybrid drive. When Yosemite comes out, I will replace the hybrid drive with a 512GB SSD drive. And when the next version of OSX comes out, I will replace the 1tb Optibay drive with another 512 SSD drive and raid 0 them to get the most out of the computer.

Damn you, I'm trying my hardest to keep on chugging along my 15" Macbook Pro 2011 model! Just until the end of this year.. But soon!

I'm in the same position. Very tempted to get one, but I'd shoot myself if Apple came out with a redesign or significantly improved MBP.

Love my 2011 MBP but the hard drive and GPU is starting to take it's toll on me. The HDD is feeling kinda slow and my current 256mb GPU isn't up to scratch - can't do some decent FCP editing. Also, it heats up quite a lot, very annoying when using it on your lap in bed. :( Otherwise, a great and capable machine, but I'll have to hold up a bit longer and see what Apple pulls out in the next 1-2 months before upgrading.

I doubt you'll see anything in 1-2 months. New Macs will come in the September - October range.

:( I was too busy checking the MacRumors Buyer's Guide and saw that it's reached the average days since release cycle, but totally overlooked the fact that it's usually released/announced around the September-October timeframe. I'm hoping they announce it with the iPhone 6 event, but I doubt it. Not sure what to do now :|

I upgraded to 16GB of RAM, 256GB Samsung 840 Pro SSD drive, and bought an iLap to use it in my lap and it improved the Macbook Pro significantly!

As far as performance (I don't use anything graphics intensive) so its more than fast enough for me, especially after upgrading to the SSD drive but the only reason I'd want to upgrade is to get the portability of the 13" as its very thin and light. Not to mention the retina display.

Ditto. My few month old rMBP is my first Apple laptop and it's a screamer! Fast, slick, always ready to do whatever. It looks so damned cool sitting there too. Love it. I was concerned about the cost but now that suddenly doesn't matter at all anymore. It was worth it, period.

I've thought about changing to a PC laptop but there are none that compare to the sleek/complete package of the rMBP. I went through 5 replacements before getting this one but I think I've finally struck lucky :)

nice to see a lot of you guys like the retina screen. For me the retina screen is only good for reading text but not for watching movies and music videos because of the yellow tint issue on all retina MacBooks. It might not be the issue but lets just say retina screen has more yellow color than regular screen.

the can check my comparison pictures in this thread if you are interested.

Isn't the yellow tint related to certain panels from LG? Mine has zero yellow tint so implying all rMBP users suffer from this is incorrect.

To the original OP. I totally agree, the thin sleek aluminium body is so nice to touch and hold, it's fairly light for such a powerful system, the display is staggeringly beautiful (and perfect for text, movies, pictures, gaming), the PCI-e SSD is just unbelievable especially when you came from an HDD like me, it's just instantaneous and perfectly responsive.

Just a very very well designed and engineered machine and if Apple keep building them like this then I'll keep buying.

Also yeh it does run really cool, my old plastic Dell with an i3 ran hotter. Also the fans while definitely audible sort of have that 'white noise' about them, like they sort of fade into the background behind whatever it is you're listening to even at full blast.

Best all round premium laptop on the market. Sure others might have better stats on paper here and there but none come close to matching the complete package in my opinion and believe me, I searched long and hard and read many reviews before buying this and it exceeded my expectations. Definitely recommend it to anyone who is thinking about it.

Can't wait to see what this system is like with Broadwell+Maxwell.

October/November would be my guess from endlessly reading tech and semiconductor news. Tbh now it's probably worth waiting but aside from Broadwell+Haswell and maybe an updated FaceTime camera I can't see anything else changing.

I've said it before, my 2012 rMBP has been the best laptop I ever bought - (knocks on wood), its been problem free and rock solid :D

Same here.
Great performance. Great battery life. Great machine.

I do hate one thing :

The "Best for Retina" resolution is 1440 x 900 (yeah, I know I can go up to 1920 x 1080 put it doesn't looks as crisp as the default one).
I wish that the default "Best for Retina" resolution was 1680 x 1050.
It's weird that the UI elements are bigger on the 15" Macbook Pro then on the 13" Air.

Hmm, not sure if I could hold on that long, Broadwell won't really be bringing in significant performance improvements over the current gen CPUs imo and an updated 1080p FaceTime camera isn't something that I'll get excited about :D (though it is a bonus).

However, a redesigned MBP or significant improvements in performance would make me shoot myself if I bought now and Apple announced it a few months later. :|

Why would Apple redesign the rMBP? It's still pretty new and looks amazing. The unibody aluminium Macs haven't really changed much at all, it's a pretty iconic design. Aside from Maxwell I doubt there will be much in terms of performance improvements. But trust me, it's not like this thing is ever 'lacking' in terms of performance.
