You know why that is? Cause its a quality true-multitasking operating system. That's why it loads so fast. Safari on my computer loads in 2 bounces - iBook G4 1.33GHz, 1GB RAM, 32MB VRAM, OS X 10.4.8.

So see its the quality of the OS. =P

actually i wanted to buy either macbook white or macbook pro but cant decide yet. I am looking for stylist look, cools look and might attract people when looking at my laptop. I dont bother about the performance but just for the great looks. s which should i buy ?

If so, all Mac's are cool, but i suppose the BlackBook tops the list :D :D

XP has multi-tasking, a lot better than windows 98, but its not true multitasking. Here's what I've done on my computer that didn't freeze or mess anything up:
1 - Burning a CD with iTunes
2 - Creating a DVD Image with iDVD
3 - Surfing the internet
4 - Email client (Mail) open
5 - Adium X (messenger client) open
6 - Listening to music with iTunes

Did it run slow? It wasn't 100% perfectly fast, but it ran well still - like surfing the web, I really couldn't tell I had all the background processes going, whereas if I did this on Windows, it wouldn't even go.

Now what machine am I talking about doing this on? My iBook G4 1.33GHz 12.1" 1GB RAM 32MB VRAM, etc.

I wouldn't let this thread scare you though. It may seem like the Macbook has many problems but that is because when there is a problem, there is a thread. But if there is no problem, there is no thread.

Despite all the horror stories I have researched on the Macbook, I still purchased one anyways. So far I am loving every second of it!

Makes me wonder why I didn't switch sooner.
 
Weird.. I use my macbook (1st gen 1.83ghz) for pro apps - music and video projects, and at home. At one time I had Parallels running win xp (for trading software) toast, pro tools , safari and mail running at the same time.. no hiccups.. nada. I'm sure it could have handled more in fact.

I did have the random shutdown problem, but the patch that Apple released fixed that. I have no fan noise, as far as heat.. its a laptop. It's bound to get hot. I haven't measured the temperature of my macbook but if it gets uncomfortable.. I just change its position.

Do I regret buying the macbook? Hell no. I have an MBP as well but I use the MacBook more because of its portability.. and it does the job well. Except for the graphics card i think all your other problems are related to some software issue.. and if you can't wait for firefox to open.. then just leave it open.

I find it amusing to see people at the Apple stores with stopwatches.. trying to check how much time it takes for Safari to open on a macbook and on a macbook pro. And they're kids who are obviously not pro users.. just want to see how fast they can get to myspace. :rolleyes:

We still use G4s in studios.. (with scsi drives etc) They work great.. do the job just fine. They will be upgraded to mac pros at some point.. but right now there is no need. Unless we started counting the number of bounces apps took to open :p I see this unnecessary drive lately.. to upgrade constantly without actually having a definite purpose to do so. All it is, is a waste of money.

Haha so funny, sadly it is true. I had myspace for about a week and then deleted my account. Now I see my little sister on it all the time. I tell her to delete her account but she refuses. -sighs-

I would agree. I think the entry level white macbook is still a good deal. I was mostly complaining because, at the time, the price difference on the black to the pro, based on what you were getting inside, was not that much. Also all the kinks that us early adopter had to work out have pretty much been solved now.

I left Apple after my 75mhz powerpc was such a piece of crap and I came back when they went to Intel and I definitely don't regret it for a minute!

Damn - just tested on my 2 Ghz Rev B iMac G5 with 2 GB RAM (17 widgets):
...1...2...3...4...5...6...7...8...9...10...11...12...13...14...15...16...17...18...19!

When I tested a stock Macbook (1 GB RAM) at the Apple store, it was around
2 seconds flat after a reboot.
 
I have to agree with OP. I have had my blackbook since day two and now regret not getting a MBP. I am very happy with the speed and all that jazz. Its the small stuff that annoys me.

1. The speakers SUCK. Worst speakers I have ever had to listen to, they just don't get loud enough. The MBP probably isn't a huge leap, but would have made things better.

2. I like the backlit keyboard on the MBP, I occasionally have a hard time finding rarely used keys when sitting in a dark room while watching tv. Not a huge issue, just a very minor gripe.

3. Graphics. The integrated intel graphics just SUCK. There is no other way to describe it. I don't expect to be playing the latest and greatest at 60fps, but I do expect to at least get decent framerates on lower end games for those rare times I dust them off.

4. The case feels cheap. Although it has held up it just feels like a cheap knockoff and on top of that it retains way too much hand grease.

I also had to pay for the 1GB of memory I upgraded to which, by the time all is said and done had brought my blackbook not too far off the retail price of the MBP. Now of course they include 1GB RAM and 120GB drive as standard with the blackbook, which makes it a much better deal in comparison to the MBP and which would have saved me quite a bit of cash.

My biggest reason for not going to the MBP in the first place was the size. I loved the size of the old 12" powerbook, so I thought 15" would be way too big. Now I really don't mind and 13" even seems small. I guess next upgrade I can wait for the super slim MBP.

I too am in the same boat. 'bout to go get one today, a mbp. Except i like my computer, the problem for me is only the graphics because i use it with an external moniter, a 23'. and it really isn't normally useable because of that graphics card., yeah the speakers suck, but all laptop speakers suck. For me the killer is the graphics. I'm upgrading for that reason alone. Other than that i think macbooks are fine. i work mine like a dog, and it handles everything. They should have put at least 128mb of graphics.
 
I think I 1000% agree with you dude, besides fricken apple only gave me 1gig of RAM even tho I ordered 2, and they said that I only ordered one. I wonder how that came out to like 1800 bucks? hmm, plus the CD1 hard drives are small as heck, and are a pain to upgrade, and genius bar costs a lot.

The Macbook (not Pro mind you) have one of the easiest HD upgrade procedures i've ever seen in a laptop...

If you are a gamer the X1600 isn't such a fantastic card either...

the beach ball of death is what your mouse arrow (or pointer) turns into when the computer freezes. sometimes it will resolve itself and sometimes the user has to do a few tricks to resolve the issue, one of which is doing a hard reboot (holding down the power button for 5 seconds to force the computer to shut off and then restarting normally).

Why would you do that? Why don't you just buy and install Leopard?
 
ive finally saved enough and sold off my on branded ram to buy some crucial ram to see if this fixes up the problem.

Stay away from macbboks. Oh well, i wont be upgrading to MBPs until new vid cards come out wich will be very soon in June i hope ;)
