Yes. Gold plate is very thin and temporary. Body oils dull that shiny finish pretty quickly, too. For something like a watch/band that you're wearing all day, every day, it's going to look pretty tacky pretty fast. Just sit back and wait a month or so before you jump on this bandwagon and see how many satisfied customers are still around.
Sometimes you need to use a little common sense. If it were really this easy to turn cheap metals into solid gold, don't you think everybody would be doing it? To tell you the truth, you could make a DIY trickle plating setup yourself without much trouble at all.
