I haven't streamed anything... I check email and look at web pages...

Well, then it depends on what pages you are looking at, doesn't it? Some people rather save themselves a few bucks because they only check a little email and the editorial section of the New York Times. Just because AT&T makes a plan available to THEM doesn't make it right for YOU and it certainly doesn't make AT&T an ******.

But 250mb on LTE for $15 a month is just something an ******-T&T would even put out there.

Well, see,s like you need to take this up with AT&T?

----------

Are you getting these speeds on LTE? Or on HSPA+?

I've had LTE the entire time. When I switch on cellular the LTE symbol comes right on. I'm in Orange Ounty, CA and my speeds have been pretty consistent. A little slower here and there. But verbally really happy with everything.

3GB for $30 works for me.

Well sir we aren't talking about dropped calls on a iPad thread we are talking data speed and usability. :apple:

Indeed, you mean data throughput and usability like this:

Peak Hour Tests

Verizon - 3G / LTE
  • Bottom two are LTE on 1 bar
  • Technically not even in a extended LTE area yet, with closet LTE cell tower about 5 miles away.

There are many reasons AT&T are ******s. I was only citing one of them. Charging 15 dollars for so little data on a giant LTE pipeline is like charging for free samples. But it's more their tactics that make me dislike them than anything. Rather than spend money to fix their network when the 4 went to Verizon they chose rather to blow a whole bunch of money on Luke Wilson to tell you that they don't suck. They pare down their data plans to low numbers but they don't lower their rates. In fact they raise their rates and tell you that you are getting a "BETTER" deal.

I'm not saying the other US mobile companies are much better. Verizon overcharges but at least they are up front about things. Sprint likes to tack on weird BS charges that are noted in the fine print and hope that their customers don't notice it.

But with AT&T the most recent offense is the "no free tethering" with your iPad. And that they are "working on it", what's to work on? It's literally baked into iOS5 and they went out of their way to disable it.

If they finally do enable free tether, watch them tout it like the second coming. Like they did their customers a HUGE favor for de- crippling iOS on their network.

And I'm not unreasonable. They're a business. The people with unlimited data do need some restrictions... But to limit them down to 2/3gb before they are "punished" for being loyal customers? That is wrong.

I think it's pretty commonly known that Verizon has better coverage.

I also agree about the ridiculous 250mb plan from ATT. One of the reasons I went with Verizon is because of their $20/1Gig plan. That, and the better coverage and free tethering. Kind of a no-brainer actually.

I've had AT&T on my iPhones since the first generation (in Boston area). Dropped calls all the time. Recently I've been getting these spots where I have full bars and it clearly says "4G", but for whatever reason I have no data. AT&T sucks.

I'm not a country boy where I need service while I'm up in the mountains our out in the stix. I need speed and AT&T know how to deliver speed. As long as they deliver speed I'll keep giving them my money.

Not at all... I have the Verizon iPad. :)

I'm in Los Angeles. At&t's LTE is also slower here and doesn't cover all of Los Angeles. Though LA is an unusually large city but Northern Los Angeles; ie Hollywood, Beverly Hills etc actually has really poor LTE or no LTE at all.

Well duh... It says it on their website that LTE in northern LA is non existent.

Just pointing out that I'm not up in the mountains or up in the sticks as it were but the 3rd most populated city in America and At&t's LTE stinks out here. My VZW iPad smokes At&t's where I live... so it's really about where you live. But I just dislike At&t as a company in general... see above.

AT&T - HSPA+ 4 Bars service

Wow. That's pretty awful.

I consistently see 4Mbps or better with four bars AT&T on my iPhone4S even during peak hours. Every once in a while I'll see something in the high 2's and some 3's.

I'm not disputing your numbers, but they'e very different from my experience.

Why don't you tell us how you really feel?:D

I've been with AT&T since the first iPhone and I've had no problem with them though I can appreciate those that have. I think ALL cellular companies have us in their clutches and take advantage of the consumer. Just name your poison!

Yeah... I went off on a spiel even further up... but At&t just offends me at this point. And I have a 4S under them still because I had to join up with my parent's family plan after becoming unemployed last year to save some money. Coming from Sprint's unlimited WiMax data to HSPA+ with only 200mb to use is beyond painful.

Sadly for the world, At&t still is the fastest network for the iPhone 4S so they can continue to price gouge and nickel and dime their customers.

I returned my Verizon iPad for AT&T because most of the area around me does not have LTE but does have the faster HSPA+ service from AT&T. That is really fast compared to Verizon's 3G.

I get about 10-15mbps near my house in the suburbs of Philadelphia on LTE. At my college which is a bit further away, however, I get only 1mb if I'm lucky on 3G. And that's assuming I can maintain a signal.

I think the 250 plan is just strategic to get people to sign up for the $30 plan; i.e., "Only $15 more for 8x the bandwidth! Wow!"

yeah I know... doesn't make it any less ******y.

I personally think that 1gb is the sweet spot for basic data needs. That's why I was happy to drop onto verizon's plan of $20 for 1gb. Would have gone with Wifi version if they didn't have that.

Or maybe, just maybe, it is for people who only need a little bandwidth and want to save themselves some money. Not everyone uses the internet the same way...
