There are apps for BlackBerry, Android and Windows Mobile. Apps have been around on smart phones long before the iPhone even came into existence.

They weren't mainstream until afterwards though. The smartphone was advertised for business. Blackberry had e-mails, Windows had Microsoft Office and e-mail.

And yeah, if you're buying an iPhone, you only have the right to complain if you're using it with AT&T. We can't help you if you're jailbreaking to use with another service, that isn't ours or Apple's problem. With the demand, it wouldn't make it any better now.

"There is a reason why AT&T was preferred over the others."

Remember that the iPhone was first offered to Verizon and they turned it down because :apple: would not let them mess with the operating system like they do with all of their phones from the different manufacturers.

I think the biggest hang up now is...

Verizon: So um Steve, Where can we slap on a gigantic tacky verizon logo on the iphone?

Yes, but the Verizon internet usage is based more on the actual internet browser usage, not applications. People don't have 100 apps on their Blackberry, they have 100 apps on their iPhone. The same goes for T-Mobile. Even though it's higher, it's not the same usage. People are still checking their e-mail, but they're not playing a multiplayer game.

You open your mouth (or in this case type) and garbage spews forth. Bandwidth usage is bandwidth usage whether its coming from apps on a cell phone or from the web browser on a laptop connected with a air card. Your post makes ZERO sense and I am now more stupid for having wasted my time reading it. Not to mention IE or Safari on a laptop connected and surfing the net uses much more bandwidth than apps on an iPhone or even mobile Safari on the iPhone.

I think it's safe to say Verizon is quite invested with Android and Motorola these days. So if Apple were to reach out to another carrier I think it would be T-Mobile. And I even remember some analysts saying something similar. But then again were talking about analysts here.. ;).

Apps would require more bandwidth though, depending on what it was. Especially now that HTML5/CSS3 based apps are being made. You fire an app now, they might have 5 servers being connected to the internet, just to make sure you haven't cracked the app to have it for free.

Really? Is a Safari/Opera browser open the same thing as being on a 3D multiplayer game? Loading a 5MB page on Safari Mobile is the same as doing it on a MacBook Pro minus the flash and some plugins.

one reason i hate VZW is that habit. over the past four years the operating systems on my phones (though all the phones have been LG the hardware have all had huge upgrades) have been basically the same, and it's friggn old.

oh and the rare occasion when i want to check my usage (min/txt) on their web browser it never works, i have great service but once i open the browser all hell breaks loose and it never works. thanks vzw! i couldn't imagine actually having to pay for their web service, waste of money IMO.
