Isn't the language in that quote from the uppermost levels of Apple clear enough? The iMac/Mini/Pro have merged/evolved. A complete redesign of the line or the entire desktop paradigm is in progress right now, with tight security on information. "New product pipeline". This definitely explains the long wait, doesn't it?

FYI, the only time in iMac history that a refresh took longer than the one we're in right now was when they shifted from PPC to Intel. That was a big change. Get ready for something just as significant . . . :D

Tim Cook originally said that they had something great coming for the professional community "late next year." This was hurriedly corrected by an Apple spokesperson to stress that there would be an IMac this year and that Tim had been referring to the MacPro. So, with that in mind, if there is going to be a major change/merge in the IMac/Mini/Pro lines, I wouldn't expect that until September 13. But, given Apple's other comment, I would expect some form of spec bumped iMac at some point before Christmas.

i am mad at them too but i think we will forgive them when they do release it because I have a feeling it will be something special this time around and we will understand why it took so long. So in a way I feel better knowing that my 5 year upgrade cycle fell on something really cool.

I hope you are right!

We'll see something new hopefully by September. Unlike most here, I've been truly waiting for only about a month (sold all my PC gear end of June).

I can do another month fairly easily. It'll most likely be worth it. The only thing holding me back from the current models is the SSD options, pricing, and SSD speed.

But now with latest rumor from yesterday, it seems like a redesign or facelift of somesorts is in order since the screen is getting special treatment. Can't imagine the new screen technology in the same unibody.

But in all honesty, who the hell REALLY knows (besides the obvious people who actually know)?

Lets just wait and be patient!

:)

Well after all the latest rumors, and the financial call, we all know that we won't see the new iMac in July.
And probably it will pop in septmeber.
I think that it is a good time for all of us to take a step back, and leave this forum for few month and then return when the iMac finally arrive.
The obsessed talk about the rumor and every tidbit that is coming about it is simply nuts, and cause to every one to be more angry every day that pass without the new iMac.
Not to mention the effect of a very slow time movement..:)
I am leaving for now, thanks all, see you back in September .

That's an excellent idea. I've been feverishly checking this forum every few hours hoping for someone to tell some good news...unfortunately, it never came. Maybe I'll just get a countdown app that ends October 1 and call it a day.

I don't know where you guys are coming up with this total remake in Sept.. maybe a missed something... they don't mention iMac AT ALL! Its just another batch of speculation by hopeful folks without a real tangible word having even been said.. lack of communication, this is what I find frustrating..

and yes.. btw.. other computer manufacturers do announce products before release.. in fact it is rather common..

Since the iMac is often an educational tool, i see a strong incentive for them to get it out before September. In recent history, there has only been one update past August (the transition from aluminum to unibody), and that was preceded by an update earlier in the same year .

Keep waiting....

There's always next Tuesday!

Evidence from someone who has detailed access to Apple's supply chain is saying an update in late September/early October. The article was a few days ago. All of the speculation to this point has just been wishful thinking with no real evidence, so this is different and probably true.

I'm on my iPhone, otherwise I'd get you the link.

Honestly, their slogan "Mac keeps getting better and better is ********. B u l l s h i t.
Where is that "slogan"?

So, the Macs don't get better and better but your signature says you are excited to buy your first Mac this year

Some of you guys need to learn to relax.

Damn:mad:... I sold my MacBook Pro 3 months ago thinking an updated IMac will be released at WWDC. So I have to wait 3 more month. But please Apple, not only for a spec bump...

Be careful with that mentality. I'm choosing not to get my hopes up for anything revolutionary or even a redesign. Learned that with the Mac Pro "update" the hard way...

either way i am buying the next iMac because i need it. I am just happy that there is a good chance it will be something bigger this time around. If there isn't I still win because I need one and I do not care too much if it is not redesigned.

I feel the same way. If it's just a spec bump = win. If it's a redesign (even minor like a less reflective screen) = win. :)

This is simply not true.

And thanks for continuing to spread misinformation in this forum. You have a lot of company.

Still, they will release a new model at some point, right? And, if it were a minor spec bump (say 8 months from now?), that would seem somehow embarassing for Apple I would think? "We finally got that USB3 to fit the casing!"

I suspect that when the refresh comes it will be something fairly significant. But, as a newer apple consumer, I'm discovering this company doesn't always follow the unwritten rules of a typical company/consumer relationship! I mean, I want to give them my money to buy my first Mac but it's like they are playing "hard to get"!

I doubt it will be anything significant this year. Ivy Bridge, USB 3, faster GPUs, same panel assembly as the rMBP to reduce glare, and possibly SSD as a standard option (or at the very least cheaper than today's prices).

I suspect they wanted the spotlight of WWDC to be on notebooks and the Mountain Lion launch to be focused on desktops but issues on the assembly line threw a wrench into that plan.

My predictions:

2012 iMac - November 2012. This will be the second to the last iMac.

Last iMac to be release Spring 2017. This will be the last desktop by Apple, unless they kill it before release.

Wow that's one pointless prediction!. I predict that in 2032 we will have visitors from space which will anal penetrate the entire human kind, this happens exactly 6:37.

Products get renamed to include "Classic" before they're allowed to wallow around without updates for 5 years.

Besides, the iMac Touch hasn't even been announced yet. (Thank goodness.)

I think I'll pass on the iProbe.

An iMac with updated specs in October is good enough for me.

With that said... yeah I'll pop back in near September.

...

Who am I kidding? I'm here. :(
