You will be happy. Don't listen to all this noise here. I figured out pretty quickly who and why people hate on the MBP 16. If you needed/wanted the upgrade, enjoy it. I have to agree, the retina screen is the t*ts compared to the MBA screen. It's just refined in every area.

especially MBA to a P3 retina,

not that regular retina is any slouch either, but man, quantum leap, in resolution, contrast, and viewing angle.

and presumably brightness too, I know regular retina to 2016 is quite a bit

I personally will be waiting for the next revision (I have a 2013 i7 MBA). I don't want to compromise on # of ports or battery life and right now it kind of seems like you have to pick one.

But everyone's situation is different and as long as you are not going into debt or denying food to your children to get this macbook pro, I say enjoy!

And please let us know your impressions vs the 2014 Macbook Air when you get the chance. The more feedback from actual users the better!

Personally I think it was a little soon for an upgrade but thats me and I had my last MB for 11 years (2 years too long) so take my advice FWIW. But I think if you were able to sell your MBA and get a few shekels for it you might feel better about the purchase overall.

You will love the new one it's awesome.
I sold my MBA to my sis for £500 and I bought the nTB MBP for £1,125 + £9 for a dongle so it's not a huge chunk of money. Maybe I'll get lucky and if the refresh is superb I can sell the MBP for £800 or something :D

That's how I upgrade my iPhone every 2 years, it's kinda like leasing it but I can always decide not to sell it; I just can't help myself.

Unless you really need the extra power for video editing ect I would have kept the Air and maybe just redo a clean install to make it feel fresh and fast again.

All the clean installs the world won't increase the display resolution.

It arrived today and I have to say so far I am very pleased with it. I updated it first and foremost and then just used it as I normally would. Much better sound quality even though I'm no audiophile, I definitely attained a new appreciation of my music. I'm already used to the new style keyboard and I adore the display. That alone is reason enough to upgrade.

Amazon strangely sent me an entire box of USB-C to USB dongles! I'm not quite sure what to do with the remaining 8, sell them on eBay?

Also, anyone who has this model: Do you find that when transferring data using USB 3 rather than 2 results in spontaneous dismounting of the disk? I had a kernel panic when I was using a USB 3 HDD via the dongle and I'm not quite sure why, console didn't really make a whole lot of sense to me.

But I would definitely recommend this nMBP. They say there'll be an early refresh next year but my understanding is the CPU will be a minor bump (at least for the 13") so no point in waiting. It's a lovely, compact, heavy, luxuriant feeling piece of kit.

They are very cool little machines, I am in love with the stuff to love, Thin, Beautiful screen, and all around compact package, fast SSD!!!. And I'm in HATE with the stuff to hate. Two USBC/Thunderbolt3, Dongles and all the fears of a new refresh...

My fear is that the Kaby Lake refresh will give us more USBC/Thunderbolt3 ports because of the native on chip controllers. If they release a 13" non-touch in 2017 with 4 USBC/TB3 ports, I will be bummed...

Also I have a feeling they are going to release a 15" non-touchbar in 2017. The touch bar still doesn't make much sense to me.
