I've gone thru 5gb's since launch. Something is seriously not right. I don't stream ANYTHING and haven't done any weird iCloud backups. I'm pretty sure iOS 6 is bugged and is ****ing everyone over right now very hard. There is no reason I should be at 5gbs right now, and expecting a massive overage charge next month.

Does the on phone data counter show wifi useage as part of that tally? Verizon and my phone are showing two different amounts with Verizon being the smaller of the two.

If VZW isn't throttling my LTE, then there's a problem. My fiancé hasn't hit 300mb of usage and her LTE speeds average over 10mb/s down.

One thing I also noticed, I have a iPad 3 with Cellular, and when I updated to iOS 6, it had me log in for my ATT account. When i did, it did not recognize that I previously had a data plan which wasnt close to being drained completely. Made me "buy" a new one. So I did. then a day or two later it said I was out of data and I hadn't even used the iPad. Literally. Hadn't touched it. Then I look at the cellular usage today, after not buying more data, and it shows that I haven't used but all of 100mb of data so far. So go figure.

I also, even having used 8GB of LTE, not noticed a throttling or reduction of speeds. I am on a business plan with grandfathered unlimited data that predates the original switch from ATT to cingular. No idea if business accounts get more LTE for unlimited. I am going to talk to my business rep asap.

I went from BellSouth to Cingular to AT&T. Good old days lol

I feel inadequate now... ImageUploadedByTapatalk1348638566.672834.jpg

Note....I've had this since 8am launch day.

I'm betting the OP restored from a backup. That brings over the cellular date records, I believe. Others have hinted at this but I guess we'll have to wait until the OP comes back and fills us in.

Nope, not this time. Restored from a backup to iTunes made 20 minutes before this post.

Also note the reset date.

This is real-world casual use.

I think the first thing to care about is knowing what your phone is doing and if necessary fix it.

^^^this.

But with bandwidth this high (consistent 30+ mbps up and 20+ mbps down), unlimited data would be a godsend.

Did you sync iCloud through LTE?

Yes but my iCloud backups are just for contacts, not for apps or anything memory intensive.

Thought it might be Photostream, but that's still WiFi only...right?

My post in another thread about this issue
https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/15875212/

I can add that today I did stream 1 youtube video but that was hours after the supposed 800,000 KB transfer occurred.

Something is seriously wrong here and gonna cost a lot of people a lot of money.

I have the unlimited plan but still worried.

I will be calling Ma Bell in the morning to figure this out. The more I hear and read the more I think my large dumps back in June were me playing with itunes match but I haven't done that since. Seems like ios 6 may be the culprit in the last few weeks

I haven't even downloaded a large app over LTE on the new phone, Did allow 2 10mb apps to update but that is it. I haven't even gotten a new app yet.

how do you get a tether data meter? is that something carrier specific? I'm on AT&T.

Yup, only offered by supported carriers. Rogers is good like that; free tethering on any plan over 500 mb. (Same with all Canadian carriers I think.)

you guys, i believe this is a bug in IOS. im pretty sure its counting wifi also. im at 2.5GB now according to IOS but when i log into verizons website im only at 400mb. go by what your carrier tells you not IOS

I never use WiFi. This is 100% cellular.

Watched 1 video since this this and it's now reporting 1.1gb.

I too am Having an issue! I was connected to wifi and vzw sent me a txt message while watching the video I had used a gig of data!

im at 98.3mb and I have only used wifi. Got the phone today but still have unlimited

It must be counting Wifi in those amounts. My phone is showing 10.2gb but VZW is showing 3.2gb. Major difference. Im kinda scared since thats only been since Friday. I looked at my 4S and it shows 42gb used and thats from release day last year. How in 5 days did I use 1/4 of what Ive used in year on a different phone? Im also concerned since VZW never sent my 50% data cap text or email Guess My Verizon is going to be my best friend.

My usage was bizarrely minimal, yet yesterday jumped up drastically by 90mb.

I blame Siri, used it on 3G. That's the only culprit, checked everything else.

I just ran a bit of a test on the data usage used when streaming a podcast with the pos Podcast app. Seamed to be at about 50mb for 3 mins streaming! Tried it a few times with out running other apps in the background (that I was aware of anyway). End result: I've deleted the Podcast app (hated it anyway so no loss).
Anyone else streaming with the Podcast app? Might be eating into your data.

The carriers are going to be happy about this.

iPhone LTE = $$$$!

Oh, and just wait until you FaceTime over LTE! $$$

Are you guys calling Apple about this?

Seriously, when I called, they said I was the first they had heard and would see if they get anymore. Their bug fixes are based on the number of calls, so all of you need to call and get this moved to the top of their list.

Amateur. ;)
I've used 1.218 GB in 3 days (Verizon unlimited LTE FTW).

Streaming does it, so if you have a data cap- it's best if you're on wifi for streaming.

i dont stream but i now know what i did. downloaded a bunch apps from the app store on LTE.

If the setting is not switched to off, photo stream will initiate over LTE. I suggest you turn off all the background data usage. Have it only do it over wifi.

To my surprise SHARED PHOTOSTREAMS upload and download over celluar even if you have Photostreams set to be Wifi only. I have been uploading quite a few big photos and getting many big photos from family via Shared Photostreams and it has all been against my celluar. Not cool not to have a setting.

Wasn't aware of a setting to turn on cellular for photo-stream??? Mine only says wifi. (Talking about photo-stream, not shared)

Didn't AT&T wireless get bought out by Cingular first though? Then after a few years Cingular switched names and started reusing AT&T.. So it really went AT&T -> Cingular -> AT&T -> WTFOMG
Btw my AT&T uverse login is still a sbcglobal account, which is now a yahoo owned thing? Seriously people, knock it off with the mergers/splits :)
