Be careful about speedtest.net I have been testing on my S3 in my travels the last 3 weeks and you can see it has used the most amount of data. Crazy.

I thought VZW wasn't throttling 4G connections, only 3G?

Well originally they said that they would throttle high users IF the tower they were on was currently congested. Once the tower isn't congested, no more throttling.

I have yet to hit throttling myself - but maybe the towers around Metro Detroit aren't ever congested. Who knows.

I'll post my usage in a sec.

Actual usage in this billing cycle is higher due to tethering on the Droid Maxx before getting my iPhone.

I just checked usage on my good old iPhone 4 that I upgraded to iOS 6. It says I used 4.2Gb on 3G in 2 days 8 hours. Verizon reports 500Mb in the last 27 days. Looks like the iOS usage meter is either picking up lifetime usage and reporting it as current, or is flat out broken. I reset the stats and will see if it starts reporting crazy numbers.

Yup, it's true. Check the screenie.

One day of light use...few short videos through Tumblr and some email.

This seems high. Any clue as to what could be causing this??

Cheers

I used 1.1 GB my first day. Streaming from iCloud mostly. Perhaps some app downloads as well. Currently sitting at 3.5 GB Received. Bill doesn't cycle until Oct 9th.

If the setting is not switched to off, photo stream will initiate over LTE. I suggest you turn off all the background data usage. Have it only do it over wifi.

Where is the setting to have it upload over LTE? I never am connected to wifi and would like to have it upload over LTE

So can it be concluded that the usage meter is iOS isn't what each carrier's usage is saying on people's bill activity?

what does your carrier say? go by that, not IOS

As mentioned a few times now on this thread. Check your carrier online site (Not the phone) and see what data you have used and come back here to report if its the same or different please

Many have reported that the phone usage report is different than your carriers site. That is the one that counts.

All you haters can hate on Sprint. I don't have to ever worry about my data usage and my speeds are fast. #PeaceofMind

Mine match up or do fairly close. My billing cycled yesterday morning and ATT says i have used 981MB, iPhone says 1.5gb total since Friday afternoon when I got the phone setup.

I'm seeing a disparity between the cellular data usage being reported by iOS and the data usage reported by MyVerizon. iOS is showing my current cellular data usage as 215.4MB, while MyVerizon is only showing 102.4MB, leaving me with a delta of 113MB. A coworker advised me that the difference was attributable to iOS reporting in real time and the Verizon data being about 24hrs behind. However even when taking this into account, comparing today's Verizon amount to yesterday's iOS amount, I'm still left with a disparity. iOS was reporting 162MB yesterday which is 60.3MB more than Verizon is reporting today. Another oddity is that iOS has begun reporting tethered data usage even though I've never used my iPhone as a hot spot. Verizon is not showing any tethered data usage. Any ideas, a bug in iOS?

Hey, if Sprint works well for you, more power to ya. Honestly I wish there was decent Sprint coverage around Metro Detroit as they're cheaper than my Verizon line.

If anyone wants a great app to use that does not use much data than downloade the Tune-In Radio app. It lets you stream radio stations or record the channel for off network usage. I recorded 2.5 hours of music yesterday and it only used 35 MBs of Data. There are 1000s of stations all over the world to choose from.

Is there any way to scale down itunes match music? Since the songs are 256kb songs, each song is like 10-12 mbs and some longer songs from Led Zeppling are almost 20mb's! Is there a way to scale it down to 128kbs to lower the usage when streaming from itunes match??

I have cellular data off for itunes match, so that probably isn't linked to this usage issue.

But for your question I don't thinks so, part of apple's selling point on it is that it uses 256.

AAC at 256kbps is just a big waste of space. Anything higher than 160kbps there is no difference and you are just wasting space.

Yea. We should have more control over our data if there are caps on it. It should ask how you want to stream your music or videos not automatically choose the highest because you have high speeds.

I have a buddy who works at an apple store. He is going to ask around his store to see if anybody is seeing this reported and if any employees are seeing it. He will try to elevate any issues he finds

My iphone says 227 MB sent and 1.2 GB Received. My AT&T app says 909MB

----------

is there an app that would show daily LTE usage?
