It's not always the current month and the next month. It only does that when you sign up for the contract near the end of a billing cycle. If you want to avoid that then find out when the billing cycle ends (I want to say it's the middle of the month-ish) and go as soon as the next one starts.

as for the plan, the minute plan you want is $40 and the iPhone data is $30, so that's $70 -- plus you say you want unlimited texting, so that's an extra $20 a month. You're looking at $90 a month, plus the $199 for the phone, plus the $36 activation fee (if you can't get it waived). The activation fee is on your first bill though, so you only have to pay for the price of the phone and tax when you actually buy the phone.
thank you that helped alot actually.but what do u know about down payments.how can i avoid these.

How is posting on a forum and waiting for replies from non-AT&T employees helpful in anyway?

Pick up the phone, call your local store and ask. You'll get all your questions answered in a few minutes.

I'll break down my phone bill to make it a bit less confusing for you...

* $69.99 for 450 anytime rollover minutes w/ unlimited mobile to mobile and unlimited data (you have to get unlimited data w/ the iPhone).

* $15.00 for 1500 text messages

* $36.00 activation fee which you have to pay the first month

* Add about $20 for state and local taxes and a 911 fee

* Add another $10 for some service charges and AT&T surcharges

...your first months bill will end up being around $150 (because they prorate it) and after that about $100 (if you get 450 minutes and 1500 text messages)

IMPORTANT: if you're a college student, TELL THEM...I get 15% off my bill every month because of it, it saved me $14 off of my first bill . or if your dad is a federal government employee you can also get a discount.

If the phone is going under your dad's name you will only have to pay $199 + tax up front for the phone as long as he has a decent credit score. if you are paying you will have to pay more (which could be as much as a couple hundred dollars extra) assuming you don't have any credit because you're only 17.

sorry for the long post, just trying to be as helpful as i can.

http://att.com/iphone & http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/specials/iphone-info.jsp

The cheapest plan will cost you $74.99 before taxes and government fees, and that's after the first month, since there is a $36 activation fee.

$39.99 (450/mo + 5000 nights & weekends)
$5.00 (200 text messages; $15 for 7500; $20 for unlimited)
$30.00 (Unlimited Data plan for iPhone)
=
$74.99

He said he wants unlimited texts... aka the cheapest it will be is $90/month

Huh?

OP, does your ISP charge you per character used? Christ man, use text shortcuts when texting, not on a damn internet forum.

Oh, and if you have to ask about how expensive this all is, you probably can't afford it. You're 17 and still can't buy a cell phone on your own? Get a job.
