Folding phones where cool and hip for a few months then just dropped off the market. I think the tech needs to improve a lot before it could be a mass market thing like a iPhone would be.

I want an iPhone with a screen larger than the rumored 6.7" model coming this fall.

The Galaxy Fold 2 is rumored to have a screen between 7.7" and 8" unfolded.

I know the original Fold had many issues, but seeing the progress Samsung made with the Galaxy Z Flip, I think the Fold 2 will be very appealing. For a variety of reasons I'd prefer staying with Apple/iOS versus jumping to Android.

I know Apple is probably working on such a model, but we haven't heard a single reputable rumor that one is coming.
It right now. I want tablets like on Westworld. Super thin like cardboard but folds out. That’d be awesome. But right now I’m not too interested because they make the phone super thick when folded.

Reliability aside foldable phones seem to combine the worst attributes of a phone and tablet. No thanks.

That, And I personally don’t think Apple wants to invest the R&D into something that they realize there’s no market for. I’m not saying that it’s not ‘interesting’, I just don’t think it adds any tangible benefit for something that would just create a phone with more open-vulnerabilities. That’s exactly what it is, phone that would ultimately never solve anything, and purposefully is not really in Apples future given their trajectory with AR and the iPhone camera being more prioritized.

I also would like a folding phone, particularly as it looks like it may be the only way to get a small easily and always pocketable iPhone again.

I am an original SE user until the thing dies or something can do it in the same discreet small fashion that this does

It’s too think. And if they make it thin, then like the Motorola razor fold, the battery will suck. I want my phones to be thin with awesome battery life and great camera above all else.

Latest leaks say the Fold 2 screen will be 6.23" closed. Unfolded will be 7.6". Price and launch date info coming next week.

I am going to say I don't want it, try to minimize it and ridicule anyone else having or trying it - until Apple introduces it and then I am going to change my mind and claim it is the greatest thing since sliced bread and berate anyone who doesn't have one.

wow sick burn.

Latest leaks are saying the Fold 2 will start at roughly $1,900.

I don't see this as a number that is feasible for 95% of smartphone buyers. Assuming the iPhone 12 Pro Max starts at $1,100 this fall, that means the Fold 2 would cost nearly twice as much.

While I fully believe in the future of folding phones, we just aren't there yet until they come down in price. I think you would have to hit around $1,500 for them to potentially receive widespread adoption.

I can see it happening in 2021/2022. By that point, we will be on Galaxy Fold 3/4.

As much as you’re wanting a ‘folding’ phone based off thread(s) that you’ve started, I almost wonder if you’re a better candidate for an android device versus an iPhone. If you’re seriously considering a folding phone produced from Apple, you’re looking at a minimum of probably three years before we would even see something like this, [let alone if they even venture onto that path] given the transition to micro LED/mini LED displays are next in line.

I said it before, Apples R&D department is probably working more in line of AR capabilities/‘Apple glasses’, folding phone poses its attraction, but I’d say you have a higher chance of a meteor hitting your house then a folding phone coming to fruition from Apple at this junction.

I don't expect a folding iPhone next year. Most likely it would happen in the two to three year range from now. So 2022 or 2023. By that point, folding Android devices will have matured greatly too. There should be great choices on both platforms by that point. I actually think the Fold 2 will be a massive improvement over version 1.0, but I just have no desire for a smartphone that is close to $2,000 at this juncture. In a few years these devices will be much more appealing for what they offer and how much they retail for.

First proper leak that a folding iPhone is indeed coming at some point.

I imagine it’s at least a few years away though.

would it replace my iPad? No as i use my iPad for work and at home but only would it work if the folded phone had the same features as the pro line.

I used to want a folding iPhone but there is one thing in the way, battery technology. As seen by the Galaxy Flip, it will still be very thick in the pocket folded because of the need to have a large (thick) battery.

A much thinner conventional smartphone is quite acceptable to me in the pocket, but yeah you want a really big screen (I don't, 5.4" is plenty). I don't see the product that you describe ever happening until a monumental breakthrough in battery tech and manufacturers seem to have hit a brick wall in that area in terms of what could go into a product with millions sold.
