bronze passport from BB

Mine is a 32000BEV. Not BEVT. Copying hard drive with Superduper now...

just got a wd 320gb passport essential. The drive inside the usb-box is a WD3200BMVS... uhmm. Dunno if this is bad. Anyway, some people says that the drive inside those boxes is the same as the scorpios. I even read that when filling in the s/n in the wd warranty page (http://websupport.wdc.com/warranty/serialinput.asp) there is no evidence that the drive is coming from the passport box. This would have the __nice__ consequence of keeping the warranty on your drive.

I went to the page. In my case it says __yes__ your drive is eligible for warranty but in the model no. I read WDME3200TE. This is exactly the "passport essential" model no. At this point I am not sure anymore whether I would be eligible for an eventual replacement/warranty... and wd guys (of course) know whether your drive is coming from one of the passport boxes or not.:confused::confused::confused::confused:

I just bought the Seagate 7200.3 320 GB drive for my MacBook and it's awesome. I didn't see huge increases in boot time, but many apps load quicker. The extra space is nice too!

I am currently using a Fujitsu 80GB for a MacBook internal drive, small but fast at 7200 RPM.
For storage and backup I have the external 320 GB Passport Essential. Disk Utility can be used to report the model number - mine is shown to be a WD 3200BMV.

so i would have to switch it out? i mean im gonna get a macbook and will most likely change the HD if its easy to do. but dont want to run into some kind of trouble if something happens to my macbook while im in warranty that they wouldnt fix it.

no, they would fix anything that's wrong with the computer, that isn't the HDD (because its not the stock drive) ... basically, you're fine, and don't worry about it.

Did anyone solve the problem with WD3200BEVT hard drive. I have exact issue. I installed Mac OS on an 8Gb stick and even when I boot from the stick the drive is recognized but cannot be partitioned. I am not sure what I should do? Is the drive not working? Please let me know.

Thanks

Marwane
