My phone is naked and still pristine condition. I have a screen protector and a back matte skin that just covers the aluminum back. I baby my phone. Front pocket is dedicated to the phone only. So far, so good!
I do have a couple of cases, but always go back to naked within a few hours.
I like all my Apple products without cases. iPad has a Smart Cover.
Where did you get the back matte skin? I am looking for a good back cover.
Hi,
I have just received my new black iphone 5 from O2 (UK).
It has come to my attention that the black iphone 5 is very prone to scratches and looks terrible within a few days.
I am so disappointed, I paid a premium for the iphone 5 over a SIII because I wanted the premium feel of the aluminium finish.
Are there any other purists out there? How have you overcome this issue without wrapping you iphone in plastic or some bulky case?
If there really is no solution, I may try to swap it for a white model, I wonder if anyone has some pointers on how to achieve this?
The phone is still in its factory seals until I can figure out what to do, I hope someone can help out soon.
Thanks in advance,
Dot
This ^^. I got Apple Care + just so I could use my phone without having to baby it. I've got some scratches on my iPhone 5 but I'm willing to live with them and it's comforting knowing I can replace it twice for $50. I'll probably never use it but it makes me enjoy my phone more so it's worth the $.
And yes, I've had Android phones for 3 years. Plastic phones don't compare and after 2 years of usage they look absolutely terrible.

You mean a person with severe OCD would not, generally speaking, be more upset over a small scratch than someone without OCD?You have no idea what OCD is.
So I've heard, yet I haven't seen it with my own eyes - macro photos on this forum excluded. The claim that normal usage will cause the black iPhone 5 to look terrible after a few weeks is a strange one, for me. Either those people are constantly examining the surface for the smallest irregularities, or they're handling it in a very, very careless manner.Actually, sadly, it has been shown that the black iPhone 5 will scuff with normal use.

sticker boy
its the mid back matte skin.
How have the uncovered top and bottom sections held up so far? I can't imagine that the matte skin offers any type of clearance where those glossy parts don't actually rub against the surface you set the phone on? I may have to look into this skin though, I have been wanting something like this to keep my phone as naked as possible while still offering some type of scratch resistance.
I'm sorry, how has this "come to your attention" Has it actually happened to you? My 5 is flawless without a case.
Why? Because of something you read on the internet?
What issue? it's a device that's used daily, and it's pretty insane to expect something you're handeling multiple times a day NOT to show signs of use.
You mean bring it into a store and expect them to switch it out for you because you've seen manufacturing defents on it?
Oh, I'm sorry, you haven't even opened it yet? When I was a kid people said there were monsters under my bed. Did I avoid looking under the bed for fear of what might be under there or did I go by my own experience to verify if it was true?
Good luck, I think you'll need it.
You're making an invalid point though. Let me guess, you're one of those people who goes over his phone with a magnifying glass to find the smallest scratch and then returns it for a replacement because you won't get peace of mind knowing you've got a defect phone in your pocket, interpreting my post as me calling you mentally ill so you feel the need to rationalise your behaviour by saying I'm wrong and that no one with OCD would ever be more prone to be upset about the smallest scratch on their iPhone than a person without OCD?Again you have no idea what OCD is. Do some research before you make statements about mental illnesses. Anyway this is irrelevant, I was just making the point.
Ohhh for crying out loud, ok for the record so we can move on....
Obsessivecompulsive disorder (OCD) is an anxiety disorder characterized by intrusive thoughts that produce uneasiness, apprehension, fear, or worry; by repetitive behaviors aimed at reducing the associated anxiety; or by a combination of such obsessions and compulsions. Symptoms of the disorder include excessive washing or cleaning; repeated checking; extreme hoarding; preoccupation with sexual, violent or religious thoughts; relationship-related obsessions; aversion to particular numbers; and nervous rituals, such as opening and closing a door a certain number of times before entering or leaving a room. These symptoms can be alienating and time-consuming, and often cause severe emotional and financial distress. The acts of those who have OCD may appear paranoid and potentially psychotic. However, OCD sufferers generally recognize their obsessions and compulsions as irrational, and may become further distressed by this realization.
And yes, this identifies over half the iphone owners in MACRUMORS![]()
the glass areas have held up great. The skin feels a bit thick to me, so you do feel it as you rub your finger across it. I was debating getting a full back skin, but am very happy with the mid back. I was worried the aluminum was going to get scratched up easy. I didn't want to kill the shine of the glass pieces, so I think this is the best solution for me.
I had a Spigen Ultra Air case which no longer fits ever since I applied the mid back skin.

Dude...
This was a good post, let me quote it for you:
Actually you're wrong. My iPhone 4S is completely scratched up and has a huge chip on the back cover I couldn't care less.
And you are wrong about OCD but you are obviously not willing to accept that so this is really pointless. I have first hand experience with OCD and it is nothing like what you are suggesting.
And I couldn't care whether you call me mentally ill or not. I've been called worse things before. Get real.
Funny how people to claim to know so much about OCD are so ignorant about it. It's a sliding scale, not a black or white condition. Also, different people get different fixations.Annoys me when people refer to the condition OCD in this context.
Obviously have no idea what OCD entails !!

I have experience of sick people, a relative just passed after having been sick for a while. But guess what, I'm still gonna say you're sick even if you have a common cold...
Wanting your iPhone to be perfect is not OCD. Get that in your head. I know for a fact. I know everything there is to know about OCD having suffered from it in the past and dealing with many mental health professionals.
Stop acting like you know, you don't.
"It has come to my attention that the black iphone 5 is very prone to scratches and looks terrible within a few days."
So you're saying you see no indicators of a person saying a black iPhone 5 is so prone to scratches it looks terrible within a few days being a bit, shall we say, "over the top"?
A person who is obsessing over looking at his iPhone every day to find scratches is showing clear signs of OCD. Compare it to a cold, if you had cancer. Does it become clearer now?
