"It has come to my attention that the black iphone 5 is very prone to scratches and looks terrible within a few days."

So you're saying you see no indicators of a person saying a black iPhone 5 is so prone to scratches it looks terrible within a few days being a bit, shall we say, "over the top"?

A person who is obsessing over looking at his iPhone every day to find scratches is showing clear signs of OCD. Compare it to a cold, if you had cancer. Does it become clearer now?

No you are wrong. For OCD you need obsessions and compulsions. It is an anxiety related disorder. Compulsions fuel the anxiety. Just because someone is obsessing over something does not mean they have OCD.

Most people at one stage or another could identify with some signs of OCD.

Again I am telling you objectively that you are wrong. Move along now.

My iPhone 5 is naked. When it's not in use it's in a zipper pouch that protects it.

It doesn't mean they have it, but a person with OCD would be more likely than a person without OCD to obsess about these things. And especially finding the iPhone 5 so prone to scratches that they think it looks like crap after a few weeks of normal handling.

A person that has OCD is to the point where their obsessions is ruining their lives. They don't obsess over it because they like it.

It's not like admiring an Apple product.

They do it with anything and everything. They bloody their hands and pull out their hair, it's not a pretty thing.

That would be a case of extreme OCD most likely mixed with a few other diagnosis, not the threshold of when obsessive-compulsive behaviour it can be diagnosed as OCD.

Why is it so hard to grasp that OCD is a condition that isn't on or off, and that it's not identical wherever it's present?

The iPhone 5 is too big to really put in a case. The black one is supposedly probe to scratching, but the white one fairs well.

There are different cases though :) The preview of the Mophie Helium battery case seems like it will add a good half inch to the length, it'll be interesting to see just how it looks since it adds nothing to the width...

My iPhone5 lives in an Otterbox Defender case, and has been in there since the day I got the phone. I don't give a damn about minor cosmetic scratches in the black paint on the back of the phone, but I do care about scratches or damage to the front glass, and damage from accidentally dropping the phone on a hard surface.

Even with the case on, the phone slips nicely into the pocket on a man's shirt, which is where I usually keep it. ;)

I have my white iPhone 5 in a thin plastic case that covers the back and sides. It leaves the bottom and top open as well as the volume buttons and silence switch. It has a slight lip to protect the phone when it's face down.

I agree that the iPhone is a beautiful phone and i would love to have it out of the case. In fact I tried having it out of the case several times but keep putting it back.

The reason being I am constantly worrying about putting it down. I know that the camera lens is sapphire but I still worry. I know the aluminum is tough but I still worry. I worry about putting it down in something on a table (liquid, sticky, crumbs). So ultimately it gives me piece of mind. I can put my phone down and not worry. Just wipe down the case and I'm good to go.

By normal use do you mean it'll scuff and dent from holding in your hand and up to your ear?

No.

Over time it will scuff and show wear from being kept in your pocket. No matter how careful, clean, and tidy you are, your pocket has microscopic grains of sand and whatever else in there. In addition, at some point you're going to place it down on a surface that you think looks clean, but which has grittiness on the surface, etc. Eventually, a soft, matte black aluminum is going to show signs of wear. It's inevitable. If you want to keep your iPhone 5 looking truly pristine, it should be kept in a sleeve or case when you're not using it. It's as simple as that.

There are actual criteria for diagnosing things like OCD, and in order for it to be considered a "disorder" it has to be having a significant detrimental effect on your life. People need to stop throwing around the term OCD in these Apple forums because it trivializes an actual mental health problem that some people have. Worrying about scratches on your iPhone is many things, but it's not OCD.

I didn't say any of that. I just said seeing a scratch on your phone is not considered OCD so people need to stop saying that. Not just here but people do it everywhere.

"Oh, I woke up and cleaned my room this morning, I *so* have OCD."

If I hear someone flaunting that they have OCD one more time.

Mine has been naked since day 1. A few chips here and there, but when it gets bad enough, I'll get a new one for $50.

I got AppleCare+ on my iPhone. Best case ever. ;)

Naked iPhone 5

I think it's trolling when you start complaining about a product you haven't even opened yet, but to each their own.

Interstella5555 althought blunt, I think you've made more than an excellent point here. Why complain about a product you haven't even used yet when clearly any reviews or opinions read online may not necessarily apply to any one person.

Does AC+ allow you to switch a phone out for that, or would you "drop it in the sink"?

False. The white one can scratch just as much as the black one. The black one just shows it more. You've already proven that your knowledge of the iPhone is lacking.

And the iPhone 5 is too big to put into a case? Now I've heard it all. First everyone is complaining that it's too thin and small and now you're saying it's too big?

Hi,

I have just received my new black iphone 5 from O2 (UK).

It has come to my attention that the black iphone 5 is very prone to scratches and looks terrible within a few days.

I am so disappointed, I paid a premium for the iphone 5 over a SIII because I wanted the premium feel of the aluminium finish.

Are there any other purists out there? How have you overcome this issue without wrapping you iphone in plastic or some bulky case?

If there really is no solution, I may try to swap it for a white model, I wonder if anyone has some pointers on how to achieve this?

The phone is still in its factory seals until I can figure out what to do, I hope someone can help out soon.

Thanks in advance,

Dot
Inanimate objects cannot be naked.

It's big enough for a nice user experience yet light enough to use while exercising.
