iPads have excellent resale value. Get the 4 now and if the next one comes out soon and it has something you've gotta have, take the minor hit by selling the 4 and get the new one!

Base your decision on this:

There is no guarantee it gets released in March. And if it is- the re-sale value of thick/heavy/old iPad 3's/4's will be far from great. Everyone who has or wants a full size wants a thinner lighter version.
IMO- The aftermarket will be flooded.

My advice- why not get a mini now and sell that for the full size ipad5?
I would guess the iPad 5 will be released before a new mini- so the mini (which is cheaper than ipad4) should hold a better resale value.

Chasing and waiting for new versions of Apple products is becoming more and more a fool's game

I have found it far more satisfying to buy when I want a product or can afford it than to speculate on baseless rumors

If there is solid information about an upcoming product, then that is different
But basing a decision to buy or not to buy on pie in the sky speculation is a loser's game

B) Have issues with the first batch just like most of the other lines.

Huh? What are you talking about? It is very common with Apple software, but not so much with hardware after the first version. I'd take caution getting an iPad 1 or iPhone 1, but not an iPad 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 etc.

Apple software tends to be evil when they release a new number. Something like OSX 10.7 is horrid, 10.7.1 is better, 10.7.2 begins to be reliable, 10.7.3 is stable for most all uses.

I think the problem for many people is in distinguishing between solid information for upcoming product and baseless speculation. After following Apple rumors for a few years, I feel I've learned the signs of solid information, but I think it is difficult for many people to wade through and sift all the rumors. One thing I can say is solid information is only avaiable about a month or so before product release. Anything further out than two months should be considered speculation. Also, just because there is information that appears to be solid, doesn't mean it is true. There was the rumor of a tear-shaped iPhone that never materialized, and we got the 4S instead. Still, while the shape of the 4S turned out to be incorrect, the timing of its release was predicted fairly accurately. You just have to get a sense for which rumors are likely to be correct. Unfortunately, that requires lots of time following rumor sites, and not everyone has that kind of time or interest.

In my many years of closely following Apple.. The only "solid" rumor is a batch of new Part Numbers leaked into vendors' ordering systems.. This usually indicates an imminent release of new/updated products.

Everything else - "analysts" predictions.. Digitimes articles.. blurrycam photos.. etc.. are less than "solid".

My rule of thumb is simple - if I need a new Apple product.. and there is no announced event on the horizon - I buy now. Certainly agree with previous poster - waiting for months for unreleased Apple products is a fool's game.

The problem with Apple rumors and leaks these days is they tend to be more true than not. I remember a good portion of individuals including myself thought the mini rumors were BS and they turned out to be true.

Also some of the iP5 leaks turned out to be true as well as the iPad 4 leaks.

Get a 4 if you need one.

A) Hard to find

I'd seriously wait a few months after initial production for the kinks to be worked out.

Yet, Apple fans continually repeat this process every year.

I only have experience using iPhone. I've never bought any iPad. Though I own a Samsung android tablet, which is quite good.

I wanted to have iOS and android both. So, thought to buy iPhone and android tablet.

But anyway I might look for iPad as well. I've heard good words about iPad 4, but never used it.

I sold my 3 to get a mini and I picked up a 4, I considered holding out, but I'm more believing that we won't see the 5 till fall, and even if we do I don't see what more they can do but make it thinner and Lighter like the mini. The 4 is a performance screamer over the 3.

I have a Nexus 7 and love that for android, but I've tried alot of larger tablets from the Kindle Fire HD, to the Asus Transformer and the Nexus 10 and while the Hardware are top notch on all of them where they fall down are the apps, the majority of apps are still not optomized for tablets, never mind the hi res screens of the Fire HD or Nexus 10, and they look awful. Even the apps that are optomized often still offer a better experience on the ipad.

So you want something that doesn't exist?

We know it will, so that's all that matters. I feel like my dollar goes further when I get a product the day it arrives, rather than buying something mid-cycle. "It still works the same" is irrelevant TO ME. There is value in knowing I have the best one available for as long as I can. Some don't care. Scoff away, there are millions and millions that think exactly like I do, and we're not wrong to think that way. Not at all.

What issues did "most other lines" have? I bought my iPad 3 on launch day, and it's been perfect.

My first iPad 3 had a screen defect (line of pixels along left side of screen). My second iPad 3 had a light bleed along the bottom causing the display along the bottom to exhibit a pinkish hue. My third iPad 3 has been perfect and even has better battery life than the first two.

Here's another vote for getting it now. I got mine for Christmas and I love it. Couldn't really care less if a new one comes out in March.

Debating what they could possibly add to the current iPad. Only thing I can think of is thinner (boring) and thinning the bezel (silly, where would it be held?).

Loving my iPad 4 :D

Lighter. More storage -- I really would love to have 128GB. Faster wifi with more range. Agree about thinner bazel being silly, though if it got lighter, a thinner bezel might work.

I was going to buy the ipad 4 but due to funds issues the past month or 2 i had to wait and now might as well wait until the next one is out..i own the ipad 2 currently and the next one would be a huge update.

thought might as well wait for the ipad 5.
