The price is a little steep - is that a gold plated G5? I don't think any PowerPC computer is worth a grand, let alone that price.

I agree, but the prices in every country are drastically different. Even in the U.S., city by city can vary wildly on used Macs.

But they have PCIe. So you can install a better graphics than a Dual Processor 2.5 (AGP graphics). However, they're really close, DP may be faster for some task and the DC for others.

I sold an Early 2009 Mac Mini this month for 340€... it was the 2.0 GHz model, but I had upgraded the RAM to 8Gb and the HDD to 320Gb, and was sold with an original Snow Leopard disc... in my opinion, superior to every G5 but the Quad...

I have a late 2009 mini. And it is fast but will not run circles with my quad definitely.

usb 3

There's no USB 3.0 driver for 10.5. Some are universal binary but they require 10.6

Interesting. So if you put a USB 3 PCI card in there, it just wouldn't work at all or would you get USB 2 functionality? I don't really have any USB 3 peripherals, I was just curious as to how that all would work.

Mactracker would agree with you also. The Quad is the only PowerPC Mac faster than that version of the mini.

there aren't many g5 for sale and for this price in portugal, in fact i can't find g5's in a store anymore

Exactly, just three days ago I bought a very nice-looking G5 Quad for 3850CZK (equivalent of ~ €150) in an auction on aukro.cz. I'm kepping it for sure... Duals go usually for about €100 or less, rarely slightly above 100...

Greetings,

It's amazing how much shipping costs, especially it's amazing within the EU (considering that distances are not that great, and 50+ years of economic integration should have demolished the cross-border -shipment effect by now).

Still, the prices on basically identical items vary widely (Finland is somewhere in between Portugal and the Czech republic, sadly closer to Portugal)

According to "economic theory", the cost of any item in one country should not be higher than that of the identical item in any other country + shipping + inconvenience value. Either that inconvenience value is higher than economic theory predicts, or economic theory is incomplete.

Laptops, now that is a different story, as I would have very little use of a MacBook with a czech keyboard:
"Finnish is a euphonious language, in other words, it pleases the ear. This is by virtue of its abundance of vowels, which eliminates ugly, consonantal conglomerations. It was recently proposed to export a few vowels to Czechoslovakia, where they are getting rather short of them, and import a few Czech consonants in their place, but negotiations broke down at an early stage. The Finns decided they wanted nothing to do with a language which called ice cream "zmrzlina" while the Czechs were equally distrustful of a language which called it "jäätelö"." (outdated original text; source ) :)
