I’ve waited in the chow line in the US Army, but I would never, ever stand in line for a phone.
The only people I can imagine who would do this:
1) You somehow missed the pre-order day, or didn't think you'd want it then and in the week since (maybe post-reviews?) you decided you want one AND have to have it Day 1 AND you have the time to wait in line
or 2) Like OP mentioned, you're doing it for fun "just to say you did it" (?)
Thanks. I'm currently camping outside of the Apple Store for more than a week now. Going to upgrade my iPhone 11 Pro Max to the iPhone 12 Pro Max.
People actually have given me money thinking I'm a homeless person sleeping in front of the Apple store. Because of that, I got extra money for the charger that is not included in the box.
His mom drove us there, in her Oldsmobile station wagon. There were 7 of us. The wagon had front bench seats, so it was his mom + 2... then 3 more in the back seat.. me and 2 others squeezed into the rear-facing seat in the trunk area.
This seems like the worst possible time to wait in line for something....
Went to that Sega Genesis release huh?I’m nearly 40, and I have never waited in line for a phone or done anything crazy for Black Friday. The only thing I have ever done is some midnight game releases back in my teenage years.
I'm also questioning my own decision to select in-store pick-pick tomorrow.... but I'm sure the Apple Store will take all precautions and kick people out as soon as the handover of iPhones are complete?
SUICIDE seat! oh I miss that tiny bench seat, we would wave and make faces at the people in the cars behind us. I loved it when they would make funny faces back at us and blow a kiss.
Not the ones that need assistance in setting up their phones they won’t... or then want to maybe test out MagSafe, or buy an Apple Watch while they’re there... but distancing will be in place and in store capacity limits will be present.
Got in line about 11 am that day. Not too bad. Apple ordered pizza.Never done one of these, but I think in the early days (3G, 3GS etc) they were a real event - less so these days though.

You are going to be disappointed - there are no 12 Pro Max available this Friday.
Only 12 and 12 Pro.
You have 2 more weeks to wait outside....![]()
I only do it for the excitement of talking to the other people there. I used to do it yearly for CoDs, and I did it for the PlayStation Consoles. But now I usually just buy my games digitally. I made sure to rush to get my PS5 pre-order in ASAP. I'm glad I did, Because I know these will be sacred for a while apparently.I waited overnight when the Xbox 360 came out.. I was 16. Never again
Exactly my point, Sure I can wait at home for my pre-order. But when standing in line and talking to everyone else about what phone they use and what they're getting etc... Was fun. I think its was the iPhone 6/6s launch, A friend of mine stood in line, and had a mother and son behind him, He finally convinced her to upgrade from her old iPhone 3g 8Gb Phone to the bigger screen 6/s plus model. Plus he got an upgrade from his 5s haha.I did the line for all of them up till the 5, which is when Apple finally figured out their in-store preorder pickup.
The original line was great fun.
We all made Apple successful by buying their products. People who decide to camp outside shops for the bizarre fun of it don’t get any extra kudos from me.
