I too am having problems after the 2.2 update. 3G problems. I used to always be on 3g, with a pretty strong signal too, but after the update it's always on edge and only has 1 or 2 bars.

I tried downgrading to 2.1 last night, and it kept giving me to 1013 error, so I restored it with 2.2.

The instructions say to ignore the 1013 error when you are downgrading, but how? After it gave me the error and said my restore to 2.1 couldn't be completed, it put the iphone into recovery mode automatically and forced me to restore again. I knew it wouldn't work with the 2.1 file as I had already attempted it 3 times and each one ended with the 1013 error, so I just restored to 2.2.
:(

Well I think I know what's going on here... I just downloaded the picture you linked and it was indeed blurry. But, when I emailed that picture to myself, instead of it sending me the whole picture, the phone emailed me the 160x160 thumbnail... which is probably what it's erroneously displaying on the iPhone screen. That would explain why its blurry... Look like 2.2.1 isn't far off.

I can't imagine why this was not caught in testing at Apple. It's such an obvious bug.

I see your sarcasm.. and it seems warranted..

except when you consider that its not just happening with that one photo of mine..

its happening with photos being saved from several photo related apps, and photos that are being e-mailed and several other scenarios too..

the fact that it happened to me within the first 20 minutes of having a 2.2 upgrade seems like it IS in fact a pretty obvious bug and apple should have caught it..

not to mention countless photos that were already in my photo library.. are now blurry as a result of the 2.2 update.

I have almost 100 photos in my iPhone Photo Library and Camera Roll and none of them have been changed by 2.2.

wow! 100 pictures!

I've had my phone for 2 months and I have over 600.. becuase I take photos for fun.. and for money.. some with the iphone, and others saved to the phone from my host... unfortunately.. 90% of the photos on my host are saved at 800x533 or 533x800 resolution.. which is where the problem is..

If you were to download any photo where the resolution is 800x whatever.. you will also have the issue..

and alot of the photo apps use 800 as the output resolution, which causes distortion when saving or e-mailing..

basically.. it worked before.. and it doesn't now.. and thats what is the most frusterating of all.

It is an obvious bug, and Apple should do better bug testing before releasing firmware updates. But we all know that already.

After upgrading to 2.2

1) I lost my jailbreak 2.1
2) I lost all the videos recorded with jailbreak 2.1 video recording program :(
3) Push e-mail stopped working
4) Downloaded pictures on Safari or e-mail, gets compressed so bad is not even funny
5) Battery meter doesn't show actual battery level
6) 3G reception is worse, I'm more in edge than 3G now :(

why in GODS name did you update if you were jailbreaking???? did you think that somehow you'd still have all your jailbroken stuff afterwards? if so you pretty much have you head so far in the sand i'm surprised you can find your way to unlocking the phone.

explain how push email stopped working. i don't think that this is a documented issue, unlike the picture problem with safari - which i don't think is big enough of a problem to cry for 2.1 again

as do I.. but I'd rather not fill up my phone with 7-8mb RAW photos..

so I resize the ones I really like to 800x533 before hosting them on the web for download..

what is your point?

My point is, you, and the OP, found an obscure problem that has 2 easy work arounds;

1. Pick a size that doesn't include the number '800' when you resize your 7 and 8 meg photos.
2. Suppress the urge to download pics off web pages until Apple sends out a fix.

Should this bug have been caught? Yes. Human beings should produce perfect code and if they don't, then testing should be perfect. As others have mentioned, every new release brings out the whiners and in the case of the OP, people who do not know how to upgrade.

End of debate.

The problem is far from obscure.. There are threads popping up everywhere related to this issue.. And as for resizing photos.. From now on I will use something other than 800... But the thousands of photos I already have hosted.. Now that would be a pain in the ass..

Why are you being such a dick about this? Did an 800 pixel digital photo kill your mom?

Thanks For Help.

jailbreak it again....what did you expect exactly????

2) I lost all the videos recorded with jailbreak 2.1 video recording program :(
try reading the info about your jailbreaking before doing it....

3) Push e-mail stopped working
it never worked yet anyway lol so it wasnt broken with 2.2

4) Downloaded pictures on Safari or e-mail, gets compressed so bad is not even funny
Granted...bug. Simple solution is = dont laugh too hard incase you implode...and wait for a fix.

5) Battery meter doesn't show actual battery level
I havnt experienced anything to this nature...my 2.2 jailbreak is super fast and solid.

6) 3G reception is worse, I'm more in edge than 3G now :(
Again, i cant comment as My reception seems normal.

my point being in most of your points is that your blaming 2.2 for your issues.
i can almost guarentee you that if you used a backup of your jailbroken 2.1 and restored it on 2.2 that is your problem.
a full restore on each jailbreak is the only way to get problem free fast device. trust me, ive done this so many times now...

try a 2.2 from fresh before chewing your nuts off about how crap it is

I never upgraded because I didn't see the point. Ohhh wow!!! now I can have my URL address bar cut in half so I can have the google search bar all the time. Ohhh street view in google maps (an app I never use for more than 2 seconds). I would much rather keep my jailbroken 2.1. I love it and haven't had any issues with it.

(apologize if I came off bragging)

I have just felt the full wrath of the photo compression thing... I had a 1200x2000 (or something equally larger than my MacBook screen, anyway) image and I know it was compressed a tiny bit in 2.1 coz the quality went a bit bad ONLY WHEN I ZOOMED IN... But now it's gone mad, I might as well be looking at the image through frosty glass!

I hope the file goes back after the fix, having to download all those images again would really piss me off.

To me it seems like the iphon 3g was rushed. Apple didnt put the sideways keyboard, sms, a better camera. So they came out with 2.2 to fix flaw but it causes battery to drain and there are still more flaws. If this was the case then Apple should take more time before they release the new iphone Elite. Thats just my opinion...

My battery dosent drain faster.
