True... and have you ever seen the original iPhone crack? I hate all these cracks in my 3G... it makes me feel like I can hardly hold it very tight in fear that it might crack more.

Nope..but I have a small dent on my 2G from dropping it. I prefer the metal.

I thought your iPhone was "perfect" ... ?

+1 for Carbon Fiber

You have:

(A) strength
(B) good looks
(C) Light
(D) not 100% sure but surely it wouldn't effect the radios
(E) price, ok well that would probably be a minus

I don't want that old reception-reducing V.1 shell and I sure as HELL want no part of a fragile "cracking" 3G shell.

I mean, WTMF?! You buy a $300 phone and now you have the constant concern that it may be cracking under any amount of stress! That's complete BS!

But who am I kidding, when I get mine if they are still plastic, that fact is not going to hold me back. :D

(Still pisses me off, every post and/or thread I see on this subject, simply unnacceptable) >=/

God, I seriously hope they never do a carbon fiber look. I want a nice looking phone, not a ricer. ;)

Anyway, there's no reason they can't do a plastic shell that looks and feels like metal, just like on the first iPhone. That, in the shape of the iPhone 3G? Perfect.

Apparently you've never been a car owner. Plastic bumpers dent all the time.

What? Soft plastic bumpers may invert when hit or warp when exposed to heat, or maybe dent if overlaid over metal. I've never seen hard plastic dent...they will usually crack or break.

and I've owned my share of cars and trucks

I agree. I want the original texture and color of the original iPhone with the 3G shape. I miss how sturdy the original iPhone was. Each time I want to plug headphones into my 3G, I get very nervous and it SHOULDN'T have to be that way. I already have 2 cracks coming off my headphone jack from the FIRST time I plugged headphones into it. I just don't want the cracks to grow. Ugh. With the original iPhone, I never had to worry about that.

Whatever, mate. You think the iPhone has a metal back because it dents, I think it's plastic because it can be ground into a fine powder after less than a minute in a blender and because it etches white, like plastic. But whatever. It really doesn't matter. At all.

BTW, nice ride! :D

Thanks... I don't know about that blender video. If the video is true...maybe it has something to do with how the aluminum is made..ie) Cast

Edit: I'd get carbon fiber in a heartbeat

Watch the video. See for yourself.

IT'S NOT METAL, FOLKS.

You're really annoying. Obviously it's freaking metal, you dingbat. Tell me it's not metal when you leave it in your cold car overnight and the silver part is freezing cold while the black part is normal temperature. Why? BECAUSE THEY'RE DIFFERENT MATERIALS.

Idiot...

Oh, WHATEVER! You know you'd be one of the first in line to buy and you would LOVE IT! :D

I'm still just amazed at the amount of threads and post out there now talking about their plastic shells cracking. I know I would be FREAKING OUT! >xD

Surely Apple is going to redesign or use a stronger material in the next version. We'll see!

;)

okay lets look at what the proof is, assuming your blending video IS the original iPhone...

why we think its metal:
-dents, doesnt crack when dropped
-cold, slippery, metal feel to it
-the fact apple stated it was aluminum
-sim card tray makes the tink noise of metal when dropped (why would they use metal sim tray and not metal back?)

why you think its not metal:
-u saw a video on youtube....

Look, I don't think it's metal. At least, not aluminum (like everyone likes to think) ... But it really doesn't matter to me. It's a pointless argument. You go enjoy your plastic phone, and I'll enjoy mine. I wish the iPhone 3G had an aluminum back, but it doesn't - just like the first iPhone. But again, in the end it doesn't matter at all.

Of course, you're more than welcome to keep beating this dead horse, if you like.

We keep beating it because you choose to be a d***he about it...
The fact that the iPhone is plastic does not make me a d***he; even if it did, the name-calling really is unnecessary here.

Anyway, relax. Everyone's entitled to their opinion. If you don't like people expressing their opinions, perhaps a forum is not the best place for you to be spending your time.

Where do I get one of these plastic first gen iPhones? I wanna see what they look like ;)

If you pause a few times into the blending of the original iPhone you can see that the back gets more dented and bent as it gets blended.

Also it's a commercial, it's not one long cut from the start the end. It jumps ahead, and of course he's only going to pour into the cup what looks best for said commercial.

Exactly! Just because they show you only the fine powder part doesn't mean they didn't take out the metal back before pouring it out.
