i have a question for you,is their any hope of promotion from retail to something more? like if you show great skills as a genius can you apply to be promoted to a programmer etc?

thanks

Apple is very good at keeping up with employees. I started up a podcast, and noticed hits from corporate within five episodes. Some of you might have caught a short-lived blog at iworkforapple.blogspot.com. The blogger's plan was to anonymously talk about working in Apple Retail. He got shut down (and fired) in two days.

It sounds like something out of the novel "The Firm".

Apple is clearly not a place I'd like to work. Goodness knows what sort of dodgy activity they must get up to behind the scenes. Well, I suppose Steve is having to explain some of it at the moment...

I would guess that Apple would be like any other employer. They would look at your CV to see what other programming jobs/experience you've had over the years. And if you've got the right stuff, you could then apply if an opening became available.

But I don't believe that you would find a natural career path that takes you from retail sales to genius to programming. The first two, yes, but not the programming.

well i am building up my programming knowledge as we speak, and im very capable in visual basic and a bit of c++, learning the use of xcode tools.

but ill be doing a computer science degree at uni, and i was thinking of gettinga part time job working at apple retail to help me live through uni, dno if you can be a part time genius but im sure i have the knowledge to be one in the future, but i would want to continue on to work inside apple making products rather than just selling and supporting. so i was wondering if me spending time in retail would give me any better of a chance of progressing to a more advanced job.

I applied to apple a few years ago, and I didn't get hired...well I applied again and had an interview this past Sunday. I felt I had interviewed really well and felt good about it, but apparently they didn't see it the same way.

I was about to order a mbp, but now I don't even have any interest...resentment I guess

Yea, that'll show 'em!

I applied to work at one of the apple store that had just opened up in my neck of the woods. Needless to say, i didn't get the job. But, because I didn't... my life is completely different. I found opportunities and friends I wouldn't have had. Life is funny that way.

Not buying a computer that you wanted just because you didn't get the job sounds a bit childish, don't you think?

I would love to work at an Apple store, preferably in like a stock room environment or something.

But putting restrictions on your online activity wouldn't fly with me. Plus I don't need a second job, but I think it would be cool for extra cash during the holidays.

When I work for Apple, I haven't decided if I'll want to be a support person, an education representative, or a programmer. I guess I'll have to let Steve decide.

Sorry if this was addressed but I didn;t have time to go through all the posts....

how would anyone be arrested for breaking a civil contract? Or were you just exaggerating?

Notice he hasn't posted since March 19th...

what are you saying?

His one-time-ex-girlfriend took him back, talked him into working a consulting job for a company named "we're not apple" (which REALLY WAS APPLE!) where upon he had to sign an NDA indicating he wouldn't post to any electronic medium involving any company named after a fruit but he didn't notice cause it was written in invisible ink in reverse in really really tiny print and when he posted his last post on 3-19 he was brought to the apple division of Guantanamo where he's being cross examined by his one-time-ex-girlfriend who, after breaking his spirit, pulls off the mask revealing steve wozniak who steve jobs secretly hired?

that's what I was going to say!

jinx!

Didn't notice the 19 March thing but he must've just been BSing and when someone pointed out the ridiculousness of the "handcuffs" et al, he quietly disappeared.

But, now that I'm back home, I am available to fit him for his nice orange jumpsuit.... I'm sure there's room at one of those "secret" Polish prisons.
