Ironic criticism considering GMail was "beta" for 5 years. :)

While I agree, at least Gmail WORKED while it was in beta. That tag has become a crutch and nerd fight-ender for every fanboy that likes to defend Siri.

Look, I love my 4S. I can't tell you how many times I've switched to my SII only to switch back to my 4S within an hour because I just enjoy using the iPhone better. But Siri, for me, sucks. Plain and simple. I'm not bashing the iPhone...I'm on my 3rd iteration now and when the next iPhone is available, I plan on buying it off-contract if it has all the things I'd like to see. But Siri is awful, IMO. Again, that's just my opinion and my experience in my area (and I don't get bad coverage at all).

----------

When Apple says Beta for Siri is really does mean that. There's no way to get voice technology down without having access to a huge variety of voice samples. Someone in Los Angles is going to sound different than someone from Manhattan NY saying the same phrase. Also there are infrastructure needs to assess. Your voice is sent out to a server that processes the voice into text and then delivers on the request.

Really we as consumers don't have to give a flying rats arse about the difficulty it just needs to work if i'm going to use it. Luckily I think in June we'll hear about significant updates to Siri.

That makes sense.

So, what you're saying is (as the commercial goes), we really are all "smart phone beta testers"? :D

This is patently false.

Google Voice Actions and Siri are nearly identical in the functions they can perform.

If anything, Siri was the first "true" competition for Google Voice Actions.

x2
Nobody knew about google voice. Everyone knows about Siri and will know about S voice so they are the first serious competition to be actually noticed by the market.:
Siri is more popular by now, while Google's Voice is just known among geeks...
This

That is true. But S Voice is the first "true" competition for Siri, most others have had VERY limited function, been too unreliable or just weren't used/talked about enough.

S-Voice is just android voice that has been in all devices for years. Nothing new. Only difference is ICS 4.0 lets you dictate in realtime without pausing. This is what you call "S-Voice" nothing new. Always been there ** remember that**

Source? Or are you assuming nobody knew about it just because you didn't know about it?
I didn't say nobody knew about it, I knew about it. But I guarantee you the general consumer only knew about Siri and nothing about Android voice control.

I know that. But now Samsung are actually marketing it and putting it in an appealing package for the average consumer.

Anyway I've made my point. Bye.

This is the general consensus, even on Android sites. I don't think anyone has done a thorough and scientifically accurate survey, if that's what you're looking for.

Android users I talk to that aren’t as tech-savvy I am either don’t even know Voice Actions exists, or never use it because they think it’s just for Google searches

How Google Missed With Voice Actions

For what its worth, this has been my experience with Android users as well.

I didn't say nobody knew about it

And again, without a source, this claim doesn't really hold any weight.
Directly from that editorial:
Voice Actions...is very accurate. As a matter of fact, it’s much more accurate than Siri is
That's all that matters.

Siri is an inferior product in a prettier package.

Depends on how you define inferior.

Albert Einstein was inferior to me. I'm sure I could out run him so that makes me better than him.
