but why? this isn't a weather app...how are you going to see streets if its snowing or raining in the app? lol...

Satellite feature is there to give you the visual of the ground not to show you weather....I mean maybe they can add a weather icon somewhere or temp reading of current location and thats about it...I would hate to zoom in through the clouds to see whats there....

I agree. Adding useless layers to prevent the user from seeing roads and buildings would certainly add to the user experience.

If I open the maps app I am looking for some maps. If I open the weather channel then I would like to see stuff for the weather. It's that simple.

I don't think an optional layer is useless in every case. Certainly not any more useless than flyover, which Apple was rather proud of. The layers don't have to be active all the time. There are many times in google maps where layers helped me orient myself rather well, especially when walking (I don't know that this would ever be useful while driving except for the passenger).

Weather might be a cool addition, though I am not sure how truly useful it would be for the average user.

Traffic is also an absolute lifesaver (in Google). Supposedly Apple maps supports it, though I have never seen up to date, decent information. That might have a lot to do with Google buying Waze, but it is what it is; very useful indeed. On the days that I don't take the commuter rail to work I always trust Google maps to show me which highways to hop onto, at a glance, to get home with the least amount of bumper to bumper.

If you're out driving around and you don't notice that it's raining or snowing, you should probably stay home.

ok,

google map and iphone map both not have that idea yet ,

take at look weather on ios 7
rain or snow update live animation how cool
is that -

people just touch weather and know what happend outside without turn on tv or open a door watch

just like driver map
your car driving and snow or rain ahead of that destination , some part on road rain some part not

so why just add that feature from weather to map ,

they can do it -

Why would you want them together? They are perfectly fine separate. You couldn't see the map if they were showing snow.

I like the idea, you could always adjust the green radar to very light to still see the street. Would be neat!

Well, no. With my idea, it would replace the map temporally. This would have come in handy a week or so ago when we were having a bad storm. I could have just pulled up the map on my iPhone and seen where the storm is instead of having to get on Safari and look for a radar.

This ^^

To threadstarter,
Weather changes so quickly, it would be nearly impossible to accurately depict which areas are wet, flurries, snowing, snow covered.

There are plenty of other existing weather apps (plus your car radio and TV) to handle this for you.

I use the app MyRadar to display weather information on a map. Shows time lapse of NEXRAD radar. If we're traveling and the weather looks bad, my wife can use the app to see how the storm is developing.

I'll have to check that out in the app store. Thanks for the recommendation!

Useless feature. Weather apps tell the weather in a much more sophisticated way without getting in the way of our directions. Where I live they'd be nothing but a rain cloud over the streets.
