It's not really great advice, it's an admission of a mistake.

Opting for a 128GB HDD is crazy. 128GB isn't anywhere near enough unless you don't plan to store much on it.

Another mistake people make when buying a new machine is to not upgrade the RAM from 4GB to 8GB. 8GB of RAM really should be the minimum for a machine you are purchasing in 2013.

Agreed. I think that not enough people fully consider their purchase. That includes both specs and the length of time one will keep the machine.

As an owner of a 11/i5/4/128, I disagree. My disk usage is consistently between 30-40GB, and the only time I ever page out to disk is when I play games. I think people here tend to over-estimate what the real average user needs.

My work computers have 8GB, which is fine, because it's a different use case.
