but it requires me to unlock the phone, find the app than open such app. in fact i dont like every app being "sandboxed" to its own in the first place. they should have the option to be more integrated with the system or have the ability to interact with other "apps" imo. but thats another story ;)

like on my secondary device the nexus 4 i have the "option" to have the weather in the status bar which i love but you can also disable it. see thats a choice you have :)

Maybe we should have the option of seeing the weather on the lock screen, just as we currently see a running timer displayed. We could slide it to open the weather app, just like we currently slide other notifications.

you sound like my old dad :p no point to even try to justify it. its just nice to have the option. i have friends living all over the world. i check their weather in korea for example all the time. the first thing i got when i was jailbroken was "weather icon" ever since the iPhone 3G days.

i also check it a lot during the day when i leave classes or befoe i go shopping or out for the night

"why is the clock icon ticking, theres no point either. its even more useless"

What does checking the weather in places your friends live, have to do with a weather on the home screen. You still have to open an app for that. I do the same thing, bu tI use the weather app in 7 and Yahoo Weather in 6. If I want a detailed info, ie. Radar. I have to open an app.

There is not one weather app that you can see radar in on the homescreen. Maybe for Android there is, but it would consume a lot of resources to keep it up to date. If you'r not opening an app to see the radar after/before whatever, why are you so worried about it. 30% chance of rain at 1400 doesn't tell me anything other than there is 30% chance of at 1400. If I want to know if it really is going to rain soon. I'm looking at a radar.

Yet everyone is going gaga over the new LIVE clock. Even though its in 72 point font on the lock screen before you ever get to the stupid icon! Boy what a useful feature. The fact that they wasted keynote time uttering that is beyond belief. Now if they said a live weather icon at least thats more useful.

Something that I think is a redundant feature. It doesn't serve any other purpose than to be a nice detail. It also doesn't take any resources to accomplish that either. ANd I haven't seen any one go gaga over that. Most probably won't notice.

I don't think anyone is going gaga over it. The best I've heard is "it's a nice touch" kind of thing. Personally, I agree that it's pointless.

Since the time is always displayed on the status bar, having it also displayed on the icon is, indeed, pointless. It is a nice touch, though. I suppose you could use it to teach kids how to tell time on an analog clock. :)

Still Apple gave it mention during their presentation to applause.....thats the sad thing.
People can applaud for fun you know, simply because they like it, even for the most pointless of reasons.

Yeah one constant stroke job to Apple during the keynote. YAY we can have our animated clock with 5 point type!!!!!! YAAAAYY!

The whole presentation has entertainment as a good part of it, so nothing unusual or weird about that really. Samsung even put up theatrical skits in theirs. Nothing new or unexpected.

Honestly I don't see the advantage of having the current weather immediately accessible.
I can understand *future* weather but current weather is somewhat pointless.
Yeah, you know it is 82 instead of 78. Big deal.

I agree with OP, if they made the clock app live, I don't see why they couldn't make the weather icon live, makes more sense to me to make the weather icon live than the clock since you have the time displayed at the top, but hey, this is Apple, they do whatever they want.

So we can assume that you never go outside.

No need for the attitude.

You see, no one has yet to give a logical reason why you need weather on a home screen. What did people forget that it was cold or hot outside??

Where I live the day / night temperature range is about 30 degrees. So in the morning I want to know how cold it is before I walk the kids to school (55 degrees). At noon I want to know how warm it is to know what to wear (75 degrees). Same for walking the kids home (85 degrees).

Yes, I can step outside to see what I need to do but that's part of the convenience of having a smartphone. Any of us can tear apart someone else's "wants" but this seems like a no brainer with other icons showing information in real time or badges.

I have about 9 widgets on my phone and they don't cause any battery drain, don't see how one little icon updating to the current weather conditions when you unlock your phone is going to have any impact at all.

I use the weather app RadarCast for multiple reasons. One of which is the temperature badge icon.

The iPhone should have a dynamic weather icon. For those who didn't want the battery drain they could opt to turn it off.

I believe dynamic purposeful icons are useful and add value to the smartphone experience. What are badges but a "tack-on" way to create dynamic icons?

They didn't even talk about the live clock icon at the keynote. At least, as far as I remember. I'm pretty sure they didn't.

... we can have animations on the clock icon (including a nifty second hand), and a date change every day on the Calendar ... YET ... the WEATHER app can't show the temperature?

It probably can but Apple has chosen not to given the amount of work behind keeping it current and how that might drain the battery etc

Dude, widgets are a MAJOR source of penis bragging for Android users. A major source. Ask them what kernel of Android they're running and it turns into a different story.

Bragging or compensation? (Should that be comPENISation?)

Between the widget thing and being 'open' I get a bit tired of it. You like android, great use it. And can it on what I use. Believe me, it's not that I'm on an iPhone that is the reason I don't pick up when you call

I think the whole app is pointless. I have to agree with opinions that those utility apps should be removed. You need it, there are tons of freebies

Are you serious? Fetching email DRAINS BATTERY!

So does a lot of things

It would be nice ...

(And, yes, I know there's an app that will do this. I just think the Apple Weather app should be more dynamic!!:))

Cheers!!

Regarding the Clock icon, frankly I'm surprised you guys can still read an analog clock. Most kids today do not. Maybe this is a way to teach them?

I would love it if the weather app can at least tell me if it's sunny or if it'll rain for the day. It will at least be consistent with the Calendar and Clock app. Then again, maybe all of this is moving too close to Windows tiles.
